If you dont have a proper cat board you can use an otter board in a pinch.
They will be slightly longer and narrower but that is a bonus sometimes.
An old mentor of mine who was a catman made his own catboards slightly narrower and a bit different shape than a regular catboard,he always hit the top prices with his cats.
I started using his catboards(the Rockburn board)at the FHA fur handling competitions, and won most years.

I would say Otis aka coloradocat makes the best cat stretcher on the market.

My opinion....and I learned this from watching then asking the fur buyers at our fallon, nv. sale....it is more about stretching to the correct dimensions. (that is why you see them walking around with a ruler). I use the fur harvesters solid board stretcher dimensions... to set my home made split board stretchers to width per the length i have pinned my cat to. I am not going to deny the fact i have stretched a little narrow on a few cats to give the appearance of a wider belly. Did it help? I'll never know...

Thats the correct way to use a split board.

I just stretched a cat on a rockburn board.
When I turn it I will take a pic of it beside one stretched on an industry standard board.(both solid boards).

I was trying to be extra nice to the man..... Some people enjoy playing pranks on the guy. He's probably still a little hurt from the briefcase at the Benefit Auction.

We made the MJ36 stretchers for several years until we moved from Nebraska to Texas in 2014. Sold all we made. Wire uppers and wood lowers. They are the best for cats for uniform presentation with the wood lowers and still you are able to work with the narrow neck of a cat on the wire upper for extra width.
36" is the major number and when the cat market was red hot, every inch mattered.

Does Cletis still make them after Carlis' design?

I bought 4 large bobcat stretchers from "Top Lot" out of Worthington Minnesota last fall. I used them this winter and really liked them.
I also bought some of their push pins and used them on bobcats and coyote stretchers. The coyote stretchers were older and harder wood. Didn't have a single pin come apart upon removal.
I happened to be traveling thru Minnesota last fall and called ahead to ask if I could pick up several Items and the lady was very helpful.
Will do more business with them in the future.
