Neither my truck or license plates were stolen. My phone was not stolen. New York sent me a bill for about $8 for a toll from a month earlier. This truck and plates have never been in New York. I have not been in New York State for at least 10 years.

Well all their millionaires are heading to Florida, they got to get their money from somewhere.

Probably 10 years ago my wife got one for being in NYC. Thats over 400 miles away and she was working here where we live. She jumped through hoops to get it dropped. They even sent us a pic. It showed her make,model and year of car but you couldn't see most of the plate. First couple numbers/letters were the same. I wonder how many people they tried to get to pay that bill. I know it wasn't us and we wouldn't cave in to pay a bill that wasn't ours

Sounds to me like a state sponsored scam.

Not a toll bill but I received a parking ticket in a town 30 minutes away for a car that was in my garage. We were able to get the picture of the violation. It was a different color and not my cars license plate. Just called the office and they dropped it

Pretty common, I received one years ago for my Mack semi, although I never drove my semi on the NYS Thruway.

I think it was 1997 I got a parking bill from a university in Maryland while I was stationed in NC. The ticket described a blazer with my tag but I didn’t even own a blazer. I explained this to the campus police but they insisted I pay. I had the legal division on my base submit a letter stating I had been at work the day in question. They still sent another letter to me. I ignored it and never heard back.

Very interesting experiences. I wondered if it was even from the thruway commission. Maybe more than clerical errors? Maybe less than a scam? Computers don’t make mistakes unless programmed to recognize and complete missing information.

I received one and wasn't there. Called the costumer service number. Said i wanted photographic proof. She looked up picture, not my vehicle or license plate number.

Never had anything like that. Once at my university I parked in the 30min zone for 9 min dame out to a ticket. Argued but got no where. So I parked there for the entire day. Figure I'm going to get my money's worth.

They got rid of all the toll booths on the Truway and installed plate readers all along the highway. They use them to determine who used the road and for how far, then send a bill to the registered owner of the vehicle. It is a horrible system that fails regularly. It doesn't take much for it to scan a plate wrong and I am betting thats what happened here.

Not routinely, each and every car is scanned every time you get on and off. If you buy a pass (transponder) it takes the toll off of your account. Your account is replenished back to a certain amount when it goes down to a predetermined amount threw your credit or debit card on which the account was set up. Once you get this pass most errors do not happen. It's without an account and through the use of the plate readers that people are having most of their problems.

I am aware of the EZ Pass and similar programs. However, I really do not need one since I do not travel there. Maybe if I had a pass, my nonexistent thruway use might increase, ha!

I had a Dodge Dakota pickup a 2005, no way to mistake the looks of that junk,
anyway, I got toll bills, multiple toll bills from the ny/nj bridge authority
they sent pictures of a plate going thru the G.W.B eastbound
the Whitestone and Throgs Neck bridges, multiple times
Sure enough the plate numbers matched my plate numbers EXCEPT it wasnt a commercial plate, it was a passenger plate
after i made many calls, i finally got someone on the other end who would listen, and sure enough, when they checked the cameras, it was a sedan

so the cameras read plate numbers, not make and model of the vehicle, and the bills are assigned to the nearest match in the database

If they keep harrassing you, tell them to send you the pic of your truck and your plate along with time stamp and date on the photo...they'll go away

i got one from NH last summer, blurry pic of a dark sedan, i own a tan toyota tacoma. plate # was unreadable, at hampton tolls. i live two hours west & was no where near there. i sent in the dispute claim and added they owe me for postage and 10 bucks for my time..... maybe it got lost in the mail? lol
