Flat set with red fox urine and a drop of call. #2 Duke My gal thought at first it was a little bear ! Glad I got a pic with her in it to help show the relative size of the little beast. Season here went out 1-31 so we let him go. Would have loved to have weighed it, I'm sure it was quite a bit bigger that the wiki describes as average. Beautiful animal, released unharmed. Strong little bugger too. Getting him freed was my very first adventure with a homemade catch pole. Likely to never happen again, I feel blessed. What an experience !

Nice catch. I like baited cubbies with 120's on the ground. I also like Bob Noonan's set with a 160

The typical set for fisher is an elevated marten box with a 120 or 160 BG trap. But, being a opportunistic hunter/scavenger they will respond to most any baited set.
The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

Thanks for the comments folks ! How do you typically set for these when targeting ? Marten box ? Cubby ? Are they steel wary ? or like a cat ? Are there specific "Fisher sets " ? Thanks
The set BCtomcat has caught a lot of fisher. Before the Inland Fish and wildlife of Maine decided to bend to the antis, I caught a lot of fisher in ground boxes using 120s or 5x5s. Ground sets with body grips must be used with discretion. A true step down trench dirt hole set can be a great set and heavily guided. Fisher are not afraid of heavy guiding. Cubby sets are great in any weather. Back in the day foot hold traps were of course used a lot. Body grips in tree sets are deadly. Typically they are not trap shy. But if you find someone that says they cannot get shy, they probably are a youtube expert that has caught one on camera. There is a lot more than the above to making a good fisher catch, but this should help. Mac

Amazing animal and an awesome experience for sure! My first one was unexpected also, in a DP set for coon. I had to release it also, no season for them then. When a Fisher season was set I was able to connect! Best of luck to you next season!
Let's go Brandon!

A friend had made a "hole in the m'rat house" mink set and returned to a large hole in the house and trap/catch inside. Turned out to be a good sized Fisher(released). Never expected that !
