I got bit by a foothold trap during my very first time ever setting one! Lolol. Trying to bed it securely, I done did a goofy. Just a Duke 1.5, and it's just a scratch, and it was on the joint, so it wasn't bad at all...it would have been a lot less pleasant if it got me on my fingernail though!

Anyone else a member of "Bit the first time ever setting a trap" club? grin

Now, mind y'all, I've set my fair share of dp's and conibears in the past, with nary an incident, but I just never used a foothold before because I've just never needed to...

Did happen the first time because I was way too scared of it to put myself in danger but now it happens a couple times a year when I'm hurrying too much.

I do it on purpose at the beginning of every season so it doesn’t hurt as much when I accidentally do it during the season, lol!

Not the first time setting, but I had Duke #4 snap on my left thumb; released it, then it snapped on my right thumb; released that, then it snapped on both thumbs! It didn't hurt at all, and I was able to step on the springs to release my "catch," but it's a reminder to be very careful to avoid getting caught by your 330 bodygrip trap!

GT

I can't even remember first time I got bite by a trap?? was probably 10 or so??? can't remember to many season when I was running hard. I didn't get bite while either cleaning, adjusting, or bedding a foot hold.. Just comes with using them. That you got isn't even a good bite just a boo-boo. Ones I think hurt worst is getting grabbed on palm of hand by your thumb.. done that a couple times when wanted to just brush something off the trap bed. Wham! right on the fleshy part... On a finger nail gets your attention too.

I have got grabbed by Duke 1.5s, Victor 1.75, my 550s, Bridger #2&#5, and Duke 220..

I have not got caught in my mb750 or 330s yet but at some point I'm sure I will.

May not have been my first but the first I remember, got my middle finger caught in a #1 setting for pocket gopher. Must have been about 12. Lost that nail. Good memories.

Glad you are ok.

My first time was a duke #3 in 10 degree temp. I have been snapped twice this week by sleepy Creek 1.75 removing ice crust off them. The joys of winter trapping.

I joined the 330 club today ironically. Got the beaver out that I caught, reset, and caught my pinky as I was putting it back on the stand. It smarted a little, not near as bad as I imagined though.

Not the very first trap, but the first real set I ever made with a CDR got me. Scared me worse than hurt and since I couldn't get to the setters and it was already on a slide wire, it got interesting getting out of it. I had set many traps off on my hands intentionally over the years and was really surprised at how the CDR didn't hurt at all.

Not long ago I had bought some 1.5 monties from a fella who had waxed them already. I went to set them for some fox. While bedding the first one it went off and got a finger right behind the nail. I reset the trap went to bed it again and bang, same finger same spot, that one made me wince a bit. Now aggravated I tried again. Sure as heck, it got me again same finger same spot. I wet myself just a little that time. Took the other traps home and got rid of the wax.

Wait until your holding a large powerful trap by the spring lever with your thumb just a little to close to the jaw ends and it closes unexpectedly. Lol
Took the meat off the bone. Great memories. Lol

Not the first time but a few years ago I got hit just about in the same place except with a four coiled #3 bridger. A definite ouch!
