Is there a viable market for beaver oil sacs? And how should they be stored prior to being sold?

Yes there is. They are in demand from lure makers. Freezing them is the desired way to handle them. Many of us freeze them in half gallon milk jugs as they are easy to ship that way. You can either quote a volume price or by weight. I've seen it both ways.

Freezing them cleaned or drying them on screens will lessen the weight for shipping. As stated I would think most lure formulators will use or want oil sacs and oil. We have gotten them both ways.

I've tried to get this information multiple times, but can someone give me a rough idea of what they are worth. I'm talking dry, full of oil.

Thanks

Iowa,
I've never dried and sold, just frozen fresh and full. $5-$9 a pound.

I trade them for trapping supplies at $10/lb.
Have traded em at much higher price, but supply and demand slowed it some.

I squeeze the oil out and sell it at $2.50/oz and then sell the squeezed out sacs for $4.50/lb. (Still lots of oil on the squeezed ones). I average about 3 to 3.5 beaver to one oz of oil.

100 beaver recently yielded 17 lbs of filled oil sacs.
