Good morning, I am new to trapping this season. I’ve made cubby sets after watching and reading plenty. I’ve got cameras on the trap sets and seeing lots of activity, I’ve only caught a coon and possum. Had bobcat, grey and red fox and coyote checking out everything but not coming in. Any ideas on what I could be doing wrong? Any help appreciated.

You probably won't have much luck catching fox or coyote in a conibear. It has happened but very rare. You will do better with footholds for them. The more subtle flat sets seem to work better on coyote. I can't help with cats, have zero experience with them.

I’ve got a few more weeks to try, I’ll have to look into the footholds. Thanks

Sounds like a good plan. Check out the land trapping archives on this forum. Lots of information there.

You got some beautiful critters waiting to be caught though.

You need to check the Virginia trapping regulations you can only set 220 on land and no bait. The only coni you can set on land is in a specific made box. You should get in contact with the VTA officers to find out when a trapper training class.

No matter where you go there you are.

No deadfall traps may be used. Snares set on land must have loops 38 inches or less in circumference with the bottom of the snare loop no more than 12 inches above ground level. Snares with the top of the snare loop set higher than 12 inches above ground level must include a single-piece lock that is not power-assisted, a cable stop that prevents the snare loop from closing smaller than 2-½ inches in diameter, and a break-away device that has been tested to break or disassemble at no more than 285 pounds pull. Land snares may only be used with written permission of the landowner.
