I would not hear much of anything without my hearing aids, there are lots of things I don't hear with them. Now my eyesight is going South too as I have glaucoma.

I got myself a seniors' GPS.
Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination,
it tells me why I wanted to go there.

My doc says the technical term for why I have to wear hearing aids is called: "Rifle/shotgun/helicopter Ear...!"

Who would have guessed that not wearing ear protection in the "early days" would result in that?!!!!!

Gunshot often gets the blame for hearing loss but after shooting all my life my hearing has declined, but is far better than my wife who has probably fired a gun twice in her life.

I have selective hearing. Sometimes when my wife is talking to me I just smile and nod because I didn't understand what she was saying. Sometimes I just don't want to hear.

I think racecars and electric guitars did it to me.

Last night my wife was lipping off about something but I couldn't hear what she was saying - something about being out of synch or some such. It was the first time in my life I was grateful that my hearing is not so good. I didn't ask her to repeat it.

Bound by everlasting bands?
None shall take thee
From the Strength of Israel's hands.

Gunshots, racecars and electric guitars all make better excuses than the fact that we are just getting old. wink

Yep... Hearing aids don't help. When I started in Law Enforcement in 1969, when on the range, we stuck a bullet in each ear to silence some of the noise.

And to all of you lovely people that make hunting and trapping videos... LEAVE THE D...n background music out ... IT DOES NOT enhance the video. Stop and think.... there is no music playing in real life.
Most of us are out there for the peace and quiet along with our trapping.

I have been wanting to say that for a while but could never find a place to plug it in without hurting someone's feelings.

Im 65 been wearing hearing aids since I was in my late 40's. I had meningitis when I was younger and it destroyed some of my hearing. I have really struggled for a couple of years now. My audiologist recommended I get evaluated for a cochlear implant. I met the requirements and I will be getting cochlear surgery on the 24th of this month.

Too many assaults on my hearing to list. I remember sawing block on large masonry projects. Eye protection was achieved by squinting, hearing protection wasn't even a thought. I miss my hearing the most during deer season.

I have high frequency hearing loss caused by the gun fire when I was in the service.Have hearing aids for both ears. I used to photograph rattlesnakes, but had to give it up because I no longer can hear them rattle.

When I went in to get my hearing aids I told them "I need something that will make my wife talk louder" laugh

I remember those days. We did some real stupid stuff because we didn't know any better. No bracing on the front of a six or seven stack of scaffolding because dropped mud would splatter on the new brick chimney. I joked with the boss that I could only lay a brick each time my spot on the scaffold swayed past the chimney.

We'd tent in entire house walls with plastic and stick a torpedo heater in there so we could continue to lay brick throughout the winter. The boss would tell us to get off the scaffold before we got too dizzy (from lack of oxygen) and fell because he didn't want us tearing down the plastic.

We'd put a circular saw blade in backwards to cut aluminum soffit. That makes a noise that leaves your ears ringing long afterwards. When I complained I got my first ear protection; a cigarette filter stuck in each ear.

Most of my hearing loss is from running a circular saw as the cut man of a framing crew for decades.

Anymore I protect what little I have left. I wear muffs for running any tool in the shop or on the job.

The tinnitus sucks worse than the hearing loss.

Eh...wot?

my grandpa was a mason from 17 on not sure he ever wore any hearing protection

he would take out his hearing aids when hunting then doze off against the tree , doe trots in and is staring right at him about 20 yards out

he woke up just in time to see her fall when I shot her , he could still hear that.

I had a scare when I was 14 lost partial hearing for 3 days steady ringing , got good about hearing protection after that , as a telephone tech I need to be able to hear

you might actually try these https://www.amazon.com/Howard-Leight-Honeywell-Amplification-Electronic/dp/B001T7QJ9O/ref=sr_1_4?gclid=CjwKCAiAl-6PBhBCEiwAc2GOVJTL79B0iSOW_T0zKKnMQMdhlN2LlzpriA7Yqktck1r6gcIRlwIvlBoCm08QAvD_BwE&hvadid=414508665598&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9018907&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=10166414741401141043&hvtargid=kwd-301299248858&hydadcr=23322_9903891&keywords=howard%2Bleight%2B-%2Bimpact%2Bsport&qid=1643899673&sr=8-4&th=1
they amplify the sound around you and play it in the ears , but cut out for the shot

we wear them all day long at shooting events , they sell a replacement gel cushion to make them more comfortable for long wear

they hold up well have had mine since around 2014 bought my son a pair 2 years later
at the indoor range where it is incredibly loud foam ear plugs under them and turn the volume up so you can still talk and hear

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Just explain this to me.

I can understand everything in a TV program and commercial.

I get about 20% of what is said in a movie. I hear it but can't understand what is being said. I think Yellowstone is the worst yet.

Closed caption is my friend. Like Actor please drop the background music as it is distracting.
One of my pet peeves is trying to watch a demo and some folks decide it is time to hold a reunion right beside me.
My wife is my translator now and does all the telephone stuff. I have been through at least 5 sets of hearing aids and NONE will get you back to hearing anything like you used to. It is also cumulative and the nerve damage doesn't heal. Just talking louder doesn't help as much as slowing down and pronouncing words clearly. Face who you are trying to talk to and DON'T mumble.

Some individuals use statistics as a drunk man uses lamp-posts — for support rather than for illumination.
