I'm thinking about getting a wall tent made to fit my flatbed utility trailer, 6x10 with 2 foot side rails. It will have a small wood stove for heat. Has anyone done this ???

I built a chicken coop on a 16" car trailer but never a tent. You would have to set up and take down then be limiter to placed you can drive the trailer to. You can get an old pop up cheap and with water tanks heaters and fridge.

You could have a tent made but it would not be cheap. Guess im missing the benifit of the set up?

A trailer all day. Wall tents of their place but a trailer will almost always be more conffortable.

Your gonna need a place to stake it down. I learned the hard way what happens when you don’t.

I would secure the base of the tent to the wood floor with lag screws before I left home, and the raise the walls and peak once I got to the camp site. The side rails would secure the walls with the plans I have.

I have used tents, vehicles and trailers over the years to trap and hunt from. If at all possible I would use the trailer no doubt. It was nostalgic to camp from a tent but you still had to haul all of your needs in a truck or trailer rig then do the set up etc. I am glad I did the tent camping in the beginning when I was very young it was a good time and memories.

I would much rather have a small trailer instead of a wall tent. I have two limitations for not doing that. A used small camper/trailer that is in fairly good shape is pretty expensive. Plus the fact that I have to store it when not in use, and that would be in Idaho City. Idaho City gets about 7 feet of snow total in an average winter, a trailer can not handle that much snow, and ice.

A jumping jack is pretty expensive. I already have a flat bed trailer so I might as well uses it.

If you are going to have it made to use on the trailer. Then might as well allow for double duty with the ability to set up off the trailer also. Might find you'll want use it that way too.

I use a hot tent. I like it cause you can set it up most anywhere. Got one of those trailers made from the bed and frame of a half ton pick up. Put a camper shell on it. Can haul a lot of stuff between the trailer and pickup I pull it with. Can pull it over two tracks no problem. A lot of trailers wont take rough back roads. The clearance and suspension never designed to be off the pavement. I put a padlock on the camper shell door and in the hitch. Could be broken into if somebody really wants to, or lock cut and the trailer and all hauled off, but so far not been a problem. I generally park on private property. That helps avoid theft more than the locks IMO. No way to stop someone from stealing your tent stove and camping gear if they want it. With a big trailer you could lock up everything every day. Build one with some ground clearance and heavy duty axles and suspension if you go that way. Being able to get back in a ways so few people even know your there is a good thing.

How is the trailer you have going to be any different than a small camper, snow wise?

Campers dont tke rough roads to good

I have stayed in cheap motels also. Cheap is getting hard to find. A lot of them dont like you bringing in and cooking on a coleman stove either. The electricity is nice.so is the shower. I rented a chest freezer once from a rent to own place. had it delivered to the motel. they also picked it up when I was done. ( i cleaned it good before they picked it back up) get in a cold enough spot a storage locker works for fur. even if it gets above freezing a couple hours a day some days they will keep good if you lay them on the concrete floor of an evening so they freeze during the night. you can pile them up leaving a spot on the concrete for more once they freeze.

most truck stops will sell you a private shower when you get tired of just washing in a basin of warm water at a dry camp.

The roof on an RV trailer won't take the snow load in Idaho City. I would take the wall tent off of the flatbed and store it inside when not in use. Snow won't hurt the flatbed trailer.

Called these guys and I bet theyd make you a custom one for a good price. We have 3 of these in different sizes. Their internal frames are the bees knees. I can set up a 14x16 by myself in about 20min staked and all.

I bought a tent from Davis tent years ago, I sold it a couple of years ago because I wasn't using it. If they were closer I would buy from them again. I'm going to deal with a custom canvas shop here in Boise for this project.

That trailer sits to low to the ground for places I go.

Thats a cool lift idea. It should travel like a regular utility trailer.

Cutting the holes would be better done prior to dropping down. Go inside, pull the covers.

Open up the ice where you want. Move the unit. Clean off the snow and ice. Move back over the holes. Lower and fish.
