First one I caught years ago, I couldn't find it! I had a long cable on the chain for some reason. I looked and looked. I kept turning in circles by the tree that I was pretty sure that I anchored it to. I all but gave up, standing with my back to the tree and felt a slight warm breeze on the back of my neck,
which was odd for the cold day that it was. I turned around and found myself eye to eye with a beautiful gray fox at close quarters! We had us an epic stare down.
I couldn't stop the blink that was coming on, so I backed up a step. He never flinched. He continued to pretend that he wasn't there.
I released him. I figured I owed him that.
The sun shining on that orange patch on their neck make a red fox look yellow. Beautiful critter.

He was a male and seemed big for a gray.

Never caught a grey in Kansas when trapping over many years. Only caught 1 red in all those years close to a small town.
