Christmas was yesterday so i would hope some young folks found that santa brought good old traps. That very same person is about to embark on a life long journey of discovering the wonder that trapping can provide. While most will unfortunately abandon the sport a few won't and that is a great thing.

I know it was a few new 1.5 coils i got 41 years ago that started me on the path to my career , well that and watching Jeremiah Johnston too mant ties. I was once told during a fur market low (late 80s) that i was wasting my time now looking back i learned my skills and learned them well enough to spin them into a decent ADC business and then became a Wildlife Biologist with USDA.

All that from a 1/2 dozen foorholds. I only wrote this because i came across the 3 from that Christmas 41 years ago.

Life sure is tough when you don't learn from the mistakes of others.

Very nice story. I'm sure many trappers got a start with gifted traps.

Didn't get traps for Christmas when I was a kid. My mom got me stretchers which was even better. Got me on the path to finishing my own fur at a young age.

Good story, I can relate. I received a dozen 1.5 Victor long springs for Christmas when I was a kid. they changed my life. Maybe not as profoundly as yours but I'm still trapping fifty years later.

Eh...wot?

I inherited a couple dozen traps from my grandpa the year I could get a driving permit. At that time, the coon market was way up and I had a native man who would buy fresh beaver in the round as he finished the pelts, harvested castor, and processed the meat so I soon doubled or tripled my gear and the rest is history.
