I was thinking they say this size of coon is a large, this size is jumbo, like that They do but in another section they give the board sizes.

I stretched a 64" brown male last night, lately I did a 61, 62,63" male, 60" female. A big male for me is 62-67" Females usually 58"+ Are you measuring from nose to the base of tail?

I already talked about it above, the 64" one was 53" to the base, my biggest 67" was 54" I measured them too the ankle while on the stretcher, the long legged coyotes get a longer measurement to the veankle I didn't read all the posts above sorry, I was just wondering because I just sold a good sized female wolf that weighed almost 89lbs and she was 65" nose to base of tail.

Looks like a great color, it would be great if our coyote looked like that. Is 65" small for a wolf?

Nobody measures the legs on coyotes,or any other furbearer when calculating the size of a pelt. The measurement is nose to skirt,or base of tail whichever is shorter.

I agree Boco to compare apples to apples but I don't think Tac.20 sells his fur at international auctions or hasn't for a good while. If he's satisfied with what his fur buyer gives him for a "larger" coyote, that's between them. He loves going after those northern Iowan wild k-9s! I hope he can get a $30 average on those put up tawny sem-heavies this year but I wouldn't bet the farm.

I always had to sell fur to buyers , this year I'm going to hold them if I can't get 25$, I Did send some to Burlington 30 years ago, the third time I did it the guy put all garbage fur in my name and Jim took my good furs, I never did it again. I don't pay attention to how wide my first go I just open adjustable until it's tight, I only measure to the ankle for my own information I wonder how many coyote go 54" to base of tail

When using a split board, you open it to the correct size, then pull the skin on the board. if you put the skin on the board first, then open it up until it is "tight",you will thin the fur,and/or like you said will have a too narrow stretch.-incorrect way to use a split board.

Ok thanks, I'll do that . So even a narrow pup or female goes to 9" stretcher size? Why isn't stretcher a set size then

Up here on the Canadian border we get some pretty big coyotes 58" to the skirt is the biggest, out of 25 coyote I might get 2-3 at 54" not over strectching top lots stretchers opened up,most measure 46 to 48".The heaviest coyote I 've weighed up here was 46lbs plenty at 40lbs averavge 38 lbs males 35lbs on females, lots of heavys here if you start after Nov 5 if I sell this year I don't think I will get a $25 avg plan on keeping one real nice colored one and the rest will be donated to our tanned fur project MTA. That's cool, dang 58" is huge I sure hope they sell ok

There can be two or more industry standard sizes for different sex age or even section of the same species. With split boards you set them to whatever size pelt you are working with. You can also make or buy different sized solid boards for each, but for those who do a lot of put up,split boards are more versatile and economical. Split boards work well on canines and cats.Solid boards work better for leather out species like coon, otter, mink, etc and smaller fur out species like Marten.
