I know this has been explored before on this site, but these things change over time...

We're looking at getting one of these for my father in-law. He's not a tech-savvy guy, so one of the priorities will be simplicity. It would be used year-round - mostly as a "security" camera at the cabin where we have a solid cell signal (both AT&T and Verizon).

What do you guys recommend and what can we expect for a range of wireless packages?

I have 4 of the Muddy cell cameras. They work well and you can often find them for $100 each.

Follow the instructions and do not mount them on metal. I ignored that and had issues. Re-mounted in wood posts and the issues were solved.

I'm old school and low tech but they are fun to use.

Spypoints are nightmares
Covers are nice but expensive
Muddy the picture quality is horrible at night

If it makes a track on this earth , I can catch it.

Not impressed with spypoints at all. Can be in great reception and they can't find the network. Even when they do have a signal they send 1 out of 20 photos to you and just save the redt to the memory card.

I have a Moultrie XV7000i on the Verizon Network. It has been in the woods for over a year with a solar battery box. I have not had to touch it once. I love it. You can request the High Resolution photo online w/o ever retrieving the SD Card. It is $10.50 /month and includes 1000 pictures. If you are having a really active month you can add pictures directly online (Really easy) just for that month. I think Bass Pro has a Black Friday deal for around $75. I am thinking about picking up another -- you can share your monthly subscription limit between multiple cameras with Moultrie. Only photos transfer -- to retrieve video you need to go get the SD card. Sample photo below... I call it my 3 generation picture. Any questions let me know...

Spartan is great too, but a little pricey at $300+.

Pretty sure theres a new thread each week or so. Lots of feedback if you check them out. Honestly theres nothing really new, and most of them operate on the same basic principles. Picking one with good pic quality and customer support would be the things to focus on. Because they all have issues occasionally. Prices are pretty much the same for all of them.

x2 on the moultrie 7000's. I have 3 of them. Was looking for something around the $100 mark. I tried Moultries new Delta and was disappointed at the battery life. I get a ton of life out of a set of lithiums in my 7000's

Very happy with my stealthcam fusions.
I run them on solar panels and have them set to overwrite the cards when full so I can go for months without approaching them.
