I always thought it would be fun to build a 219 zipper.

but in practical application it is a bigger case and a lot of powder to do what 223 will do for the most part
around 45Kpsi is the limit in most actions that start 30-30

with so many 22-250 or 223 actions around 219 zipper seemed like a fun idea and in 1937 it surely would have been a fast cartridge

Thanks Pete. I have a 219 but I’m not sure how to load for it. I need cases to match.

30-30 is the parent case although 25-35 is already part way to 22 cal so many form those into 219 zipper

there is 219 zipper and 219 zipper improved it has a 28 degree improved shoulder

there are dies for forming both , the down side is it is not cheap anywhere that had 219 zipper forming does seems to be out of stock or want a lot of money for them.

there are some threads over on cast boolits and some of the other reloading sites

it is basically a dead cartridge so load data and cases are very limited

here is some load data from hornady https://press.hornady.com/assets/site/hornady/files/obsolete-data/219-zipper.pdf

I would use H4895 but I like it and use it for 223 , 30-30 , 308 , 30-06
it does fit well for the range of bullets in the Zipper as Hornady points out in the load data

Speer No.6 manual: 55 gr. speer bullet 34.0 gr. 4064 Max load Vel. 3554

37 gr. H-380 Max load Vel. 3566

Start lower by at least 4 gr. each powder.

i don't know of any source for Zipper brass and am not sure if 30-30 brass can be necked down. Wait one, just looked up 30-30 case dimensions and the base diameter is the same, but Zipper rim diameter is slightly smaller, I wouldn't worry about that. The zipper case is shorter, so trimming will be necessary. Anneal before and after forming. Probably have to bring it down in stages. I can't guarentee how that would go. The book says that in blowing out standard Zipper brass, loss is high.

Those loads I listed are in a Winchester Hi-Wall action. You might want to go lower in a lever action, but would be OK in a bolt action.
