I see Moscow hide and fur buys claws off of different animals. My question is how do you remove and dry a claw? Is it as simple as grab and pull? Or is there some method.

Grab and pull isn’t going to produce the product they want.

The claw needs to be removed from the foot at the first joint. Should be easy to see once the skin has been removed from the foot. Leave the bone in the claw. Scrap away any hair and flesh. Let the claw dry. The entire first knuckle needs to be left on the claw. Claws that are cut too short have very little value.

You aren’t going to get rich selling claws but it does put a few extra dollars in your pocket. Cleaning claws is a good winter project for when the season is over and you are sitting by the fireplace with nothing to do.

If you Google “how to clean animal claws” you will find all sorts of info. Some good and some bad.

I do not suggest boiling them in water or any other substance. I do not recommend coating with any preservative or polish. Claws should be as natural as possible. The end user will treat them to their own specs.

If I find a good video, I will post a link.

Thanks I figured it was more work than worth. But thought I'd at least ask.
