I bought a Freedom Brand coon trap last year. It has a bait door and I'm quite happy with it. It was $80 for a 12x12 size. Not sure how that compares to other brands.

How well do the Duke cage traps hold up? Their HD 12x12x30 are great coon traps that will last years only ever needing a few hog rings added after a bunch of catches, but they don't have bait doors. It would be easy to add one if you had the equipment and supplies.

The duke hd does not do well with coon imhoifihadone. The rod inside gets bent. If you add more rings it helps. They are great otter traps!

Get good quality cage for your investment. A few years back my boys got a few light gauge el cheapo coon sized cage traps from Tractor Supply. A big coon is virtually a Tasmanian devil when it wants out. Pound for pound strongest animal we have around here. Chewed out its own escape hole and bent up the flimsy floor pan and thin door. Trap was useless afterward and they had no coon to show for it. Anyway, that's my tip.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

Got my son a duke last year, very well built. No bait door as stated, but I think I'm gonna have him dig a small hole underneath to put the bait in. Idk

Idk I've had smart coons figure out that trick and dig the bait out from sides. Deep hole might make that a bit harder. I like hanging the bait better.
