Bring a trapping partner to pull you up.
I used to trap with an old guy who liked to partake of the spirits while out on the line.had to help him up off the ground a few times, lol.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

I am going to try a crutch! They are adjustable and strong enough to pry myself up. And can put a sling on for carrying!

I love the smell of burning spruce---I love the sound of a spring time goose---I love the feel of 40 below---from my trapline I will never go!

I have caught fox, lynx, wolverine on pole sets. Maybe try something different and maybe it will keep you off your knees. There might be other trappers that have the same experiences.

Sorry for the lousy pictures, Pre I phone!

Dad is 79 and has taken to keeping one of the grand boys close to hand when he's in the woods.

I recommend getting a large breed dog to help you get up, steady you when walking, haul your gear, and catches, freshen up canine sets and find good set locations.

Both Diane and I have used our dog, Sherman the Tank, who is half Kangal and Great Pyrenees, to stand up or steady ourselves when injured or sore. Sherman seems to instinctively know how to pull us up and help support our weight. Both when I tore my groin, slipping on an icy barn floor and when I tore a ligament in my ankle, jumping over a creek to get to a deer I shot, Sherman was very helpful while I was recovering.

Sherman is a big dog. He's 6' 2" on his back legs. He got into the 240's, but we put him on a diet and got his weight down to around 200 pounds. He is strong enough to bear Diane's full weight and has carried her for over a hundred feet. He could pull a huge amount of weight.

Sherman's half brother, Thor, who is full Kangal, is a lot bigger. Thor is 6' 6" on his back legs and around 240 pounds. He is taller than a pulling pony.

A handle, mounted on a harness on the dogs back, could likely aid you greatly. Having the dog drag your gear and catches on a sled or plastic toboggan, could help you too.

Take a strapping youngster with you. You can train him and he can hoist you up. Win, win

Take that walker add a couple nail aprons around it for setting items, traps and tool holders if needed. Get a pair of one hand setters and you can do everything in one kneel.

Was born in a Big City Will die in the Country OK with that!

I have tried in the past to find a kid that might want to learn about trapping. Found no takers. Not a tv or computer screen involved. For being in a rural area, these kids are real wussies.

Get yourself 1 of these. Swap out the manual crank for a 12v remote operated boat winch. Wear a harness and clip urself on. Lift urself up, lift up animals or heavy gear, and use it for a skinning pole.

I like ADC ‘s stand. But, you have to watch it, to make sure it can hold your weight! And keep it level! When you are at the house, I would do sink exercises. To help strengthen your legs. It just takes a while to get going again! But, never give up!

I have used trapping tools that I modified with extra long handles so I don't have to bend over much with pretty good success.

This same question was posted on another site, maybe this would help.

I was going to recommend the same. With the raised pad you're not going down as far or having to rise as far.

+1 my mother uses something very similar to this for gardening with double knee replacement
