A couple friends in their early 50s experienced heart attacks the past week or so. One survived his the other didn’t. Somehow this has me re-evaluating my health at 58. I feel like I’m in pretty good shape, could probably be improved, but can’t everybody’s? Visited with my Mom and Dad yesterday and spent quite a bit of time with them. They are doing pretty good for 85 & 80.

Yup. According to them walking and what you eat is the key. The walking I’m confident I do without really trying, just the daily things keep me moving. The eating on the other hand requires some attention.

I'm very sorry to hear about your loss. Any chance either of them had received the vaccine? I have no idea, never part of the discussion. That has become more taboo than politics or religion.

I never took any meds other than simvastatin for cholesterol which was slightly elevated. At an eye doctor appointment to have cataract surgery, they took my BP. It was 138/131. I never had high BP before. I never had any symptoms. I went to see my doctor the next day and was immediately sent to the hospital. They said a high diastolic number usually means you are a candidate for a stroke. I take meds for it now. My BP a week ago was 118/84 which is decent. It's amazing how quickly things can change.

Hobbie Trapper, by the looks of your parents, you have some good genes in your favor for sure. Life is so random, take reasonable care of yourself and enjoy everyday!

Cardiovascular disease is a progressive booger that takes about 40 years to rear its nasty head. Can be a bit shorter if someone has certain genetics. Most heart disease is helped along quite nicely by personal choices people make.
Start the youngins' on an unhealthy life style (we know what this is > we're the most educated peeps in world history) at a tender age and set the clock on 40 years.... tick tock tick tock.
The current 50-60 year olds did pretty well until they hit their late-teens and then they veered from mommy and daddy's plan + 40 years = 55-65. The current age of crap eating has lowered to about age 5 + 40 = 45.
Live fast. Die young.
Blessings, Mark

Being overweight is the real killer.......plus what all the processed foods does to your body-bad things.
50% of this country is well overweight and 50% of people here have put on an average 20#+ since covid.
Healthy natural foods - cardio - strength training will age you gracefully.

When it comes to cardio exercise, trapping is right at the top. I usually lost about 10 pounds after the season was over.

I had an uncle that was healthy as a person could be. Dropped dead of a heart attack at 39.
