Drove by a person's yard today and there was a patch of light orange mushrooms growing in the lawn. They were dense and about ten by ten feet. Doubt they were editable or someone would have already harvested them. Any idea what they could have been? About the color of a pumpkin and the size of a tennis ball. Looked just like this picture I found. https://images.search.yahoo.com/yhs/search?p=orange+mushroom+identification&fr=yhs-pty-browser_wavebrowser&type=A1-brwsr-%7E2021-33%7E&hspart=pty&hsimp=yhs-browser_wavebrowser&imgurl=https%3A%2F%2Ffiles.shroomery.org%2Ffiles%2F08-38%2F161552517-DSC00121.jpg#id=0&iurl=https%3A%2F%2Ffiles.shroomery.org%2Ffiles%2F08-38%2F161552517-DSC00121.jpg&action=click

Those in the bigger pic appear to be jack-o-lantern and very toxic.

They do look like jack o lanterns, but I didn't think jacks normally grew in yards? Only on dead wood?

Sure don't want to eat anything that glows in the dark!

Question: Just because squirrels and deer eat a mushroom, is it safe for humans? I assume the answer is NO.

I think they're called Trumps.

I didn’t stop to look. Maybe tomorrow I will go back. Sure was a large site. Probably a bushel or more in two sites close together. Not in a fairy ring however.

A friend of mine found a mushroom in his yard that a mouse had nibbled on . He picked it , cooked it and ate a small bite. He ended up in the hospital with severe mushroom poisoning. He said to the doctor " But the mice were eating it.". The doctor said " How do you know that the mice didn't die? "
