The ol two four three on deer you’ll want at least a 100 grain bullet that’s designed to exit if you want a blood trail Yote ... they make all kinds of light grain stuff for varmits too

Likely you'd be shooting more coyotes and cats than deer over the life of the rifle. I'd buy the .223 and you can get loads that are pretty well suited for deer, while using factory ammo for furbearers. I have had really good luck with with 55 gr. HP Hornady, basically never have fur damage. Winchester makes a deer specific .223 in 64gr and extreme point bullets.

Savell…..when you rack another bullet in there…..does that receiver hit you in the nose ?

it 's irresponsible for a father to have not at least taught his daughter to shoot and bought her a gun.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Talk about conflicting info.

Buy the .243 but make sure you don't use varmint rounds to shoot varmints.

Buy the .243 but make sure you do buy varmint rounds to shoot varmints.

Screw it, just buy the .223

hahaha

And Savell I've found most men aren't fond of women owning guns because they can almost always outshoot them.

243 is fine for deer. Great for coyotes. Not sure I’d want it for cats but if you’re just killing, doesn’t matter. The 223 is plenty for deer and anyone that says different has never used it properly. I still grab a 223 occasionally when I go deer hunting. I’ve never once had a deer tell me they wanted to be hit with something larger. Neck shot. In the lungs. Even a shoulder on closer shots. And a lot of it was with Black Hills “remanufactured” ammo which is a special word for reloaded didn’t matter. They used the 52 grain Sierra match hollow point. To this day, even though it’s frowned upon, I use that bullet in several 22 centerfires. It works. If you’re hunting into the woods and shots are close, use it. If you knew the ranges we’ve killed deer with 223, it would knock your socks off. Hashing said that, if the options given from that gun, I’d take the 243 and not look back. But, and this is coming from a guy that’s used the 308 extensively, I’m not a 308 guy. Likely for the same reasons I don’t care for the 30-06. It did everything a little too well. If you’ve got a 308 or 30-06, you don’t need anything else. I like variety. But I lost my guns in s as boating accident. At least the ones I didn’t sell anyway. Good luck and get whatcha want.

I keep desperately hoping that one day someone will call me "Sir" without adding "please calm down" or "you're causing a scene."

Should also add that I had one in 17 hmr. It shot great. Got rid of it. Just wasn’t what I wanted/needed at the time. Wish I’d kept it though.
