Sat down to check out some pan covers and get a few coming. Who else uses wax paper as pan covers?

That will work, but you need to crush/crinkle the wax paper to keep it limp. I prefer to use those super thin plastic bags from the grocery produce dept, put the whole trap in it.

That's really cheap per cover. I just use polyfill. Does the wax paper have any advantages besides cost?

I've used wax paper, coffee filters, and flexible screen. They all work and have advantages is certain situations, never tried the plastic bags though. I might need to especially when the snow flies!

Hamburger patty papers in the fall. Thin plastic bags in the snow. Put the whole trap in.

Wouldn't the patty papers have some odor left to them or not enough to bother them.

I have used that type of pan cover for years, the ones I get are a brownish color but that won’t make any difference. Like was said before make sure you ball them up before using and your good.

All I use is wax paper. Precut them to size before season and ready to go. Role of wax paper is cheap.

I am trying landscape fabric this year

I've tried just about every way there is for trap pans and always seem to go back to landscape fabric. I guess my second choice would be wax paper.

Be sure and follow the same thing as waxed paper. Roll it up, straighten it out, tear a slot for the dog (if you use dog on). This keeps the cover laying flat and quiet when stepped on.

Cup cake forms work well and they are waxed.

If you use the plastic bags in the snow, you can't have much snow over them, especially if it is wet packy snow, the bag will push all the snow up and the critters foot out of the trap. Some of the guys up north swear by them and claim the cheap plastic bags shatter in the cold. It isn't usually that cold here and I had nothing but misses with them. I went back to wax paper. I've used coffee filters, they work but tend to deteriorate in the wet and sometimes cause a slump and expose the pan if it was dry when you set it and there is any air under it.

If you drag that cloth over the dog notch creating a hole then place the dog over the cloth Into the dog notch you will get that cloth to lay flat..

The late Oden Corr took thousands of coyotes just using plastic sandwich bags as a pan cover for his traps.

Jury still out here. I have mix of screen and wax paper, not sure which I like better. Got a roll of waxed paper from dollar general, a good pair of scissors, and a template. Cut ones I put in a ziplock bag and goes in my setting bag. Also got decent roll of cheap screen door screen and did same thing. I used both for couple of seasons. Still waiting for champ to emerge.
I used to be an insulation under pan guy for decades. But even insulation takes on water and turns into a rock in freeze thaw conditions here. I need a space for pan to compress even the little bit I need. I do have my dogs and pans filed and adjusted for a short throw...but it still needs to throw and csnt if frozen solid. So, still field testing both types of pan covers now...

I used to use nothing but toilet paper, but had issues with it deteriorating and allowing dirt under the pan, tried the screen covers and the work well if just using dirt, but they "spring" up with peat moss and move around, so I've pretty much been using nothing but wax paper. Started by buying a roll and cutting them with scissors, then bought a box of 5x5 hamburger papers. When I need more I think I'll just buy another roll and cut it in half on the band saw, then tear off what I need at the set.

Nylon screen here custom cut from the big rolls I cut the the big rolls into 6 inch rolls then staple several of the rolls into one strip then use a templet traced over cardboard to cut pan covers while I watch TV at night. Next wash and dry them place outside to remove any odors store in plastic bags until needed.

I like coffee filters.
