100%, it’s a must using super stakes. For the 3 seconds it takes to tack an s-hook shut it doesn’t make sense not to.

How many people weld their S hooks between #3 chain and their staking system shut? I would hope everyone who uses them has them welded. The ones who don't will lose traps to coyotes and thieves fairly often. I also weld the j hooks shut. Doing this allows me to pull most traps with my atv winch by hooking the tip of the winch hook into the swivel. When they aren't welded the j hooks pull open.

The system is only as good as it's weakest link. I even weld my J hooks.
Common sense is a not a vegetable that does well in everyone's garden.
