how is the water level ?
it was very low when we were over that way mid June
the pool 7 launch in Trempelue was getting almost un usable
as was the pool 8 launch on the MN side right below the dam
the Onalaska launch by Moosetrot was good but it is very new

That's a nice bracelet. What type of detector do you have?
Most in this country have things people in other countries only dream about. Yet, they want America to be more like those other countries.

I had heard 4.8 tossed around at the bait shop the first week we were there June 7,8.9 it seemed about 9 inches lower the next week 14,15,16 I also recall hearing at the bait shop that in 2020 the river had not been below 8 the launch at the north end of pool 7 just below dam 6 was definitely a lot shallower from the first week to the second , we had almost no rain and high temps thanks I am hooked on the big river and need to get back over there.

What you have is a Hutchinson stopper soda bottle the Pat. is out of Chicago, IL. The stopple is made of brass wire with two disk attached to the wire with a area between the to disk for a rubber gasget to fill that area and to seal the bottle when pulled tight to the shoulder area of the bottle or bottom of neck. The brass loop should stick out of the top of the bottle. Case that the bottles are stored/carry in have 24 holes drilled in the bottom so that when stacking cases on top of cases the seal/stopple is not broken. https://www.peachridgeglass.com/2011/11/w-h-hutchinson-son-bottling/Find the right color like 7 up green and I have a $200.00 waiting for you. Condition equal price always!! pick65

The bottle has raised letters on the bottom W&H and the Letters SB&C Co around the base. Like I said not sure if I chipped it digging it? I may well have? still going set in on the shelf here some where.. If the wire in the neck is brass does make more sense to me that it pinged my machine. The way I set it when I'm in the water most the iron doesn't beep. For those that ask I'm currently running a MineLab Excalibur which is a true water machine. Being that I've use my machines while diving. I need a machine that could go deeper than the 10 ft that a lot of machines are rated at. I do spend most my time in shallower water but never felt I could justify two or 3 machines. I do have a Garrett Ace 250 I bought with the idea the wife or kids could play on beach while I was in the water. That is mostly my loner machine now. I also have a pin pointer that is supposed to go deeper than 10 ft too, It is a Deteknix.. Been messing around for well over 30 years with the detectors, mostly in water or on beach. Oh almost forgot,,, yes the river is low hovering around 4.99 or 5ft today. I my self consider a normal river around 5.5 ft not sure what the corps says.. Been some years since we had a 5ft pool in June or July usually a August or December January thing... Last several years wasn't often got below 6ft when I was diving more I used to watch it daily. Don't do that so much any more. Mac

Looking good. All of your finds have got to be dug. That one pull-tab is an antique. Cool bottle too.
Took my Equinox 800 out last evening, blazed a trail up the hollow and made a littlle circle. Different spot, that I've never detected before, maybe 600 yard loop, give or take. Found some kind of little brass piece of junk, rifle brass, copper from a rifle bullet, maybe pistol ? And a galvanized nail. Couple other pieces of junk, that's about it.
I've got a couple hours before I go to work today, going to take my mask and fins down here to a spot where folks like to lose good junk. See what I can find. We're up in the 80's now, the water should feel good.

Soda "POP" and their bottles got the name from kids tapping the stem to dislodge the marble seal so it would "POP" back in place from the pressure.

Mac, I have always wondered if you say the river is at 5 feet, what is that measured from? What is the constant or is there one for every pool / location on the river? As a surveyor I am used to dealing with elevations above sea level, does not matter where you are, it is a number I can determine. I guess I am a land surveyor, and have very little experience with hydrology.
Zim want to get real confused , some places are using a sea level comparison and some seem to go off of a set stage comparison pool 8 seems to go on a set stage like 5 foot , 10 foot is a warning stage and 12 foot is considered flood , https://water.weather.gov/ahps2/hydrograph.php?gage=lacw3&wfo=arxpool 6 seems to go off distance from sea level currently 639 feet with 647 feet being flood stage https://water.weather.gov/ahps2/hydrograph.php?gage=trew3&wfo=arx

Zim I did some looking on that whole 0 gauge thing one time. The corps controls the river to maintain a 9ft shipping channel.. From what I understand true zero gauge now would be the normal level the river was prior to the locks and dams being built. I really don't know but believe what we call normal pool is how much the corps raised the river in each pool when they first closed the gates. It could be as you say that true 0 gauge is our elevation above sea level. I really don't understand it I believe I read once there is only one place on the Mississippi where they read from true 0 gauge.
Boco I really don't know what one might call the best thing I've found?? maybe the simple surprises or my own plowed under traps?? I don't know that I have any thing expensive like rare coin or some high end jewelry. I did recover a very expensive Rolex for a lady on time. That I actually did just brailing it by hand. I've got a couple gold and silver rings and a small 4 stone diamond ring. That my wife liked so I gave it to her for valentines day or something where saved me buying something.. LOL. I've only ever sold a few old wheat pennies and I have box full of coins. I figured I paid for my detectors doing the paid recovery jobs. Not all of them even require having a detector. But it's nice to know I got it. I have recovered a couple of handguns. Those were for PD so I didn't get paid for those and of course couldn't keep them. I do like finding the old stuff like the bottle and I have a few of them setting around.
