Again I ask, how will making more intoxicating substances legal benefit our society. People who want to be dope fiends are dope fiends. The drugs are available now to anyone who wants them. There wont be more addicts. There are not more ethanol addicts now than when it was illegal. At least not if you use percentage of population figures. We spend untold trillions of dollars playing whack a mole with narcotic distribution. We fill our prisons with users and dealers. The money generated by narcotics is more than all most any other single industry. Without the burden of taxation. All that money creates criminal enterprise commonly called gangs. The gangs exist to protect the drug trade. Just like when ethanol prohibition brought Mafia to the U.S. now its organized crime to distribute narcotics. All that money has corrupted law enforcement, judges and politicians. The only way drugs are as common as they are, while being illegal, is corruption from the traffic cop up to the white house. Thieves dont go to prison any more. No room. Murderers are doing 8-10 years. Meanwhile politicians are taking your rights and using the drug trade as an excuse. All the killing going on between rival gangs is the excuse to disarm you. Cash being used to buy and sell narcotics is why L.E. can and will steal your cash . Doesn't matter if its to buy a car on craigslist or just money in your gun safe cause you dont like banks. Drugs are the reason L.E. can search your vehicle, your person, and now sometimes your home, without ever getting permission from a judge first. Law enforcement has turned into an arm of the military. More concerned with doing things like fining people for not wearing seatbelts or having an unlicensed yard sale than arresting a shop lifter or even a burglar. My question is what benefits has the war on drugs given us if they are still available everywhere and anybody who wants them has them?????????????

So then how do you propose to stop it? Could start executing people like they do in the Philippines. Short of that the only result is a loss of government recognition of your rights. Stop the government assistance and let the victims of home invasions and theft make the corrections.

I AM 100% IN FAVOR OF MEDICAL MARIJUANA!!! Should only things that have some sort of benefit to society be legal?

can anybody cite a single benefit of the war on drugs?
looks to me like they only thing it has accomplished is propaganda to convince people that giving up freedom and their rights is a good thing, is working
DRUGS ARE EVERYWHERE READILY AVAILABLE TO ALL

DRUGS ARE EVERYWHERE READILY AVAILABLE TO ALL The war on drugs has only resulted in money for politicians, full prisons, more criminals, less freedom, and dead cops.

DRUGS ARE EVERYWHERE READILY AVAILABLE TO ALL Yes, I can cite a benefit Danny. If you are a member of a drug cartel, the war on drugs funnels all the drug money your way. It creates a monopoly for you and the profit margins are excellent, I'm sure. You keep asking the same question but nobody will tell you that the expensive effort of the war on drugs has been effective. It's obvious it hasn't. I'm not smart enough to tell you what will work, but maybe we should look for a different idea. Remember, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

I dont think anything will work. We will always have people who choose drugs. We will always have poor, we will always have thieves, and those who prey on other humans. We cant stop any of it. When we lock up addicts we are not protecting anybody. Not even the addict. They get drugs in prison. When we lock up those who prey on other humans we are protecting their victims. Long sentences for predators is a good thing. Protects the public.
Jail sentences for drug offenders does not do anyone any good

So for all these guys who have the answers and want to end “the war on drugs”, put ur money where ur mouth is and provide a solution. Just end it. There's your solution. Government generally creates more problems with its solutions.

Could have been anything from one to the other. Probably not a real kid friendly topic. Excellent common sense answer. Mac

These are the drugs; And this is a recent look at a slice of Portland after Oregon decriminalized hard drugs. The mayor of Portland now calls it literally. "A cesspool." The hard core libertarians would argue semantics... "decriminalizing isn't the same as legalizing." Maybe so. I doubt the tent city homeless could care less about semantics.

I'm pretty sure Portland looked like that long before hard drugs were decriminalized. Yes it did. So did L.A. Now that they are decimalized its gotten worse. Can't deny that. Addicts from all over the country are buying bus tickets, hopping trains, hitch hiking and everything else they can dream up to move there. Same thing happened in Colorado when marijuana was made legal. Homeless population doubled. Not from people already there but people flocking in to smoke weed without being prosecuted. Hard drugs are killers. Often faster than soft drugs like ethanol and nicotine. I have not heard anyone say different. I just fail to see any benefits to prohibition for those of us who are footing the bill. Personally I realize we will always have welfare programs in spite of all the harm they do. Time to do blood tests for narcotics. Fail and no more welfare.
