I've seen both the '36 and '92 versions of LOTM. Hard to beat the '92 film but the '36 version wasn't bad.
There are some "inaccuracies" in the '92 film... Hawkeye's rifle (Killdeer) is nowhere near accurate for the F&I War or the description of it in the novels. This was explained to Michael Mann several times but he didn't care, he wanted the rifle built to his liking so they used it.
I know little about Daniel Day Lewis except that he is a very good actor... He's one of those guys who immerses himself in the role and becomes the character he is portraying... Like Bill the Butcher in Gangs of New York.
I also thought Wes Studi didn't get nearly enough recognition for his portrayal of Magua.
Man, I may have to watch LOTM now. Lol

Was Studi played the part so well be was easy to hate.I read Daniel Day Lewis dressed in his character everyday whether working or not and his rifle went with him everywhere. It was said he learned his rifle inside and out and even took it hunting.

Yep. He even practiced loading it while running like is seen at the end of the movie. Wes Studi has played some characters you couldn't help but hate... The Pawnee warrior in Dances With Wolves was another one. Mike

Just watched the 1936 version, enjoyed the original one too. Cora and Alice switch characters in the original and the 1992 version.

Thanks Squash Nice to find out that once in awhile what you recall is true Not sure what you mean ? What I’ve stated about my ancestor is irrefutable , and documented in Herkimer County, NY, and Cooper gave credit to Nat Foster for his subject Natty Bumpo. One of Nat Fosters rifles is on display at the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake , NY. But I don’t believe it is the one he allegedly shot the St Regis/Mohawk Indian Drid with. Foster was also a close friend of Nicholas Stoner, (Rev war veteran) another Adirondack Trapper/Mtn Man in his own right.

Remember as a kid we played army and you gave up the fort so the other side got it? Of course you don't. Little kids aren't that stupid.

Madeleine Stowe was stunning in 'Last of the Mohicans'. Was she ever! The actors and actresses they chose for that film were a perfect fit.
