Great video... I could have used these last fall when I was trying to figure out how to make different sets. I've seen and really enjoyed some of your other videos too Geez... keep up the great work and you'll have enough for your own DVD.

I made a coyote dirthole set video also, but it is too long for youtube, its just over 15 minutes,

Do you guys think thats too long for someone to watch? Its more detailed then the pocket set

NIce work! I appreciate the effort this takes to put together. Awesome resource for new trappers.

Someone should ask Paul to start a new archive: Video Demonstrations.

Couple of thoughts come to mind with this set that I teach to trapper ed students:

1) Always firmly bed the trap in the mud. A 'coon stepping on the side of the trap may cause it to tilt up and then problems begin. Also, a 'coon may be digging along and flip the trap up.

2) Same goes for the chain. Stick it down in the mud.

3) Go into detail, closeup, on how the earth anchor works for the newbies.

4) Pan looked like it was sticking up in the first set.

5) How about having someone along to hold the camera while you're explaining things?

Good start!

anthony, the videos are really clear on my end, but not sure if the transfer to youtube messes them up.

I did have more video of the coons, just didn't want to push the coon in the traps too much. I'll add more close up footage

I am getting a better digital video camera soon, that out to make for better images.

Thanks for all the responses

Well produced, informative and relaxed presentation of a pocket set variation.

As you did in the coyote video, why not use a heavier, larger headed hammer to tackle that rerod with when driving in your cable stakes?

Jonathan,

I had to walk that stuff into the woods about a mile, I was trying to save as much weight as possible due to my health problems.

John, Gotcha on the weight element. The little hammer worked anyway, just took a bit longer is all.

Nice presentation! I'll have to admit, your "pocket" holes are the smallest that I have seen or used in that category - much like multiple, smaller holes used to simulate crayfish activity.

Your method has inspired me to try the smaller cavity this fall - never used that size before.

Stay well and have a safe journey.

Jonathan

Jonathan, thats the way my father taught me, said it made the coon dig harder to get the bait.

It works for me. I've just got fonder of snaring and trapping coon away from creeks the last few years, sure do like avoiding muddy coon, Sorry CJ LOL
