My Lifetime Sportsman License was $300 back in 1983 when the equivalent annual license was around $40. Infant (under 1) was $100 for my youngest son and one grandson. Same license for infant granddaughter 2 years ago was $275 but still a bargain. There is also a reduced rate for seniors, over 70 I believe.
Our lifetime license did not include trapping though. But a couple years ago, we finally managed to get the lifetime trapping license passed through the legislature. It is $300 versus an annual $30 license but no reduced rate for infants or seniors.
The Lifetime License concept with the Endowment Fund was started in NC by one of our Wildlife Commissioners in 1981. It has stood the test of time and has been emulated in many other states. And Mr. Eddie Bridges is still an active supporter of wildlife conservation and has received many awards including being inducted into the NC Sports Hall of Fame in 2019.
A search on Eddie Bridges wildlife management will yield several articles about Mr. Bridges and his forward thinking has had wide ranging consequences for wildlife conservation. I am glad I have had the opportunity to meet and talk with the man who started the lifetime license concept.
