Trevor is going to send me a breakdown for Saturday. He bought quite a bit of fur. We had over 30 trappers sell. Somewhere around 1300 coon. Maybe 200 of them green. 700 rats. 500 beaver. 150 otter. Quite a few coyotes. A few fox and I’d guess 50 or so cats went through. When Trevor sends me the numbers numbers I’ll share. As far as prices I’ll make these general observations from Saturday: -Coon are cheap. Everyone knows it. No surprises. Well handled lots, junk out, $5 to $6 averages. -Coyotes are cheaper than last year. Missouri has a overall poor, inconsistently colored coyote. Pockets of better than average coyotes exist, but overall our coyote are nothing special. Well handled bunches I saw averaged from the mid to upper teens. I saw 2 bunches of 25 plus coyote average in the 20’s, but these were exceptional coyote for around here. You have to ditch a pile of them to have 25 that good. -Rats are up. Mostly because of a short harvest, the buyers are pushing the price to get their hands on what’s out these. We have a pretty good rat, however size varies a lot between marsh’s VS ponds. Winter caught marsh rats with limited damage averaged $4.50 and up. Some averaged $5 plus. If you have good rats and have access to Trevor Barnes you’d better give give him a shot at them. -Beaver was a surprise to me. Well handled bunches with a limited number of hatters in averaged $10 to nearly $12. I saw a lot of 60 green average $5.75. Castor $75/ pound for semi dried. $80 for dried. -Otter averaged in the mid teens green and $20 or a little better dried.
90 percent of the fur that went through Saturday was finished. I never saw anyone decline Trevor’s price. There was plenty of dickering, but the fur all ended up in the trailer. The long day Saturday mixed in with too many barley pops Friday and Saturday night made for a long, but fun weekend!

Absolutely, at least i would have gotten a price from an honest man. And could make decision at that time whether to sell to him or not. My fur came from a area that has a decent coyote so who knows what price he would have bid on them but it would have been nice to find out.

You just gotta be a smart (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman). Or you just like being sarcastic and condescending. Does my answer make sense in your little itty bitty brain?

That's not a lot of rats, does that reflect prices or populations? This isn’t Minnesota lol. Our rat population isn’t much. Combine that with overall crap fur prices keeping trappers out of the game and you have these kind of numbers. Coon, beaver, and otter are our bread and butter here. 10 years ago I knew of 10,000 coon caught in this county. That’s just what I personally knew of. I doubt there were 500 caught intentionally in the county this winter. More than that trapped in sweet corn patches come summer!
