Leasing land from Timber Companies is/was the back bone of hunt clubs/camps in NY, but that is going away due to Industrial timber companies selling Conservation Easements to the state. One 30,000 acre tract we had 15 hunt club leases, that is now gone.

As a Consultant Forester who worked for the largest timberland manager in NY, 270,000 acres under management, I’ve seen it first hand. Easements open hunting rights to the general public, hunt camps/clubs lose their exclusivity and their camps. The results have been NO influx of the public utilizing the easement lands, but a drop off of the hunt club hunters that used to use the property.

Most Places here are High Dollar deer hunting leases. City slickers pay 2-4 grand a year to hunt a Property and kill Two bucks.
Ended most the Free hunting for family gatherings and deer camps. Most with common sense arent willing to pay the price.
