My business partner who is on the school board of our local rural high school told me this morning that the school resource officer had found a gun in a kids truck. The kid said he had went hunting and forgot to take it out. His father backed up his story. In Kansas it is an automatic one year suspension for having a gun on school property, but the superintendent has discretion on the matter. They ended up suspending the kid for 10 days. Heck when I went to school there I kept 2 in a gun rack in the back window.

Yep, it was the norm. I remember pulling into the school parking lot after coon hunting all night, coon light on my head, hip boots on and guns in the window rack. Me and a buddy slept in classes when we could get away with it lol. Guns in the truck and no school shootings back then!

I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

Same here when I was in high school, gun racks in the trucks loaded with guns. Also would walk to the store from the woods that served lunch during deer gun season to eat. There would be 10 to 20 shotguns leaning against the wall while people got their food. Small town America at its finest. Those were the days. I think I am starting to sound kind of old. Lol

I'm guessing they have routine searches throughout the school and parking lot with dogs. That's what many districts in MN do anyhow.

A friend of mine in high school shop class made a stock out of cherry wood with a roll over cheek piece. He fitted it with an old reconditioned Enfield army rifle. The principal told him to put it in his locker so other students could see what a great job he did. The principal even announced it over the loud speaker telling everybody to check it out. That was back when more people had common sense when it came to life itself.

Most in this country have things people in other countries only dream about. Yet, they want America to be more like those other countries.

The days of keeping guns in lockers and cars in public school parking lots have been over for about 40 years. It's unfortunate but that's life now. On the plus side, high school trap shooting has exploded in many parts of the nation within the past few years. All is not lost.

I too remember the good old days, but unfortunately they are long gone. With today’s anti-2nd Amendment attitudes, seems very careless of the student to “forget,” about his firearm in his vehicle. Even in the good old days, I have never forgotten where I placed any of my firearms. If I do leave a firearm in my vehicle, they are out of sight and doors locked.

when I was in HS, 17 years ago, it was normal for most of us guys to have a shotgun in the truck. Groups of us would go rabbit/quail hunting several times a week after class.

Amen! True story, my old man had a 870 but it was a fancy high grade, not sure now what it was but several teachers wanted to see it and I walked through the main doors and the Principal was there. He said Jeff, why did you bring that to school, I told him a few teachers wanted to see it. He ask if he could see it and I said sure. He held it up and said, man that feels good and looks great, carry on.

Those were the days, I reckon us slightly older folks are the last of the Mohican's!

Just got off the phone with my daughter... 6 months pregnant with my grandson. She works in a nearby mall and had to spend the morning hiding in the store office because of a supposed active shooter. It appears now that it was a hoax that some moron called in... But scary stuff nonetheless.

She and I were texting and I told her that we would be shopping for a firearm and a concealed carry bag... I didn't give a - what the mall and store policies were concerning firearms on the premises.

Right! Every year our sportsman club donates money to 4 different schools to help with expenses in their trap shooting programs. And in every school, interest has been growing by students in the program. Not only does it teach kids how to use a firearm, but teaches responsibility.

One of the teachers reported an issue with a red truck in the parking lot. This kid just happened to have a red truck also. My business partner asked the superintendent if the resource officer can do a random search he told him no the officer has to have a reason. I know the officer. He is a good guy who probably not have even reported it but if he didnt and it was found out he would have been fired.

Anti-gun teacher? Vendetta against the student/parents?

I had a .22 pistol in my back pack in my locker at school so I could get dropped off after school to check my trapline.
