I was asked for a donation, ok I say. Then I looked it up, it is in New Orleans right next to the river and is under the water level. Why would they put it there of all places??? I have never been there, but I am sure it has a lot of unreplaceable items that should be saved for future generations to see. They put it in a sinking underwater environment dependent on electricity to be "kept afloat" why do people do that?.....jk

The museum is actually on part of the natural river levee if I remember right. During Katrina, that part of NO didn't flood. I'm pretty sure its a private museum and the reason why its in NO is that the family/company that made Higgens boats for the war efforts came from there, tested the boats out on Lake Pontchartrain, and donated a lot of the museum seed money. I've been there twice, in 2003 and 2018. The museum has greatly expanded over time.
In 2018, my friend and I only went through the two main buildings, the ETO and the Pacific. It took us 3 hours and my legs were tired from standing on the concrete floors, but it was well worth it. There were 3 more buildings but a couple had large type of exhibits. I've studied WWII almost all my life but coming out of the 2018 visit at the museum what really struck home to me was if you were a guy that went in early, say 1942 or '43, the chances were low that you came out physically unscathed. WWII was a grind and those guys were basically in it for the duration, especially if your were ground pounders...

JK, the Eldred WW II Museum is a few hours north of you. It's a great place. I've been there many times, always something new to see. I love spending time in their library reading the period newspapers and publications.
The owner is a great guy too. I've been invited to fish smallmouth on the nearby Allegheny with him.
If you haven't been there you should check it out.
If your looking for a place to donate, they accept online donations.
Eh...wot?
