I have a cheap garmin striker 4 on my fishing kayak and I use a regular marine battery as I run night diving lights as well. I’m gonna take that striker 4 on a canoe trip but need a lighter battery. I’ve seen lots of sealed 12v batteries at all price ranges as well as a box for 10 AA batteries in series. Any advice? I’ll have to carry everything so lightweight is good but I’d also like it to last as long as I can. I’ll be gone 12 days but won’t use a fish finder that much. Just need it to find some deep trout and structure for a few days. Anyone got suggestions I’m all ears. Thanks.....shane

I run a small 12v sealed led acid battery for my yak. It's about the size of 4 bricks of .22 ammo

I have a vexilar flasher that I use for ice fishing. This battery from Tractor Supply works great and lasts at least 10 hours of constant use at below freezing temperatures. Not terribly heavy. Carry it in my pack basket on the ice.

I looked at that battery yesterday. I’ve seen a couple on line that list all this stuff to use them for, and then “not for fish finders”? What’s that all about? One was a compact 12v similar to yours and the other was the pack of AA batteries in series. I’m about to take a ride to fleet farm and tsc to see what they got. Thanks

Check to see the voltage range on your plotter. My garmin Echmap 9 sv will run from 10-20 volts.

I run mine on Hilti 12v cordless drill batteries.

i am making another adaptor to use my Hilti 18v batteries as well.

Trust me, if you already have an 18 or 20v cordless kit, its like a dream using cordless drill batteries.

Buy or find a used battery charger and cut off all the other wires other than the positive and negative. Run that to the unit with a 12 volt plug and inline fuse. mount it somewhere and use it as a docking port for the batteries to run the unit. Careful tho, as it will not be waterproof.

My 4 amp hour hilti 12 volt batteries will rum my massive Echomap for 7 hrs. 18 or 20 volt i would get days out of. Plus i already have them, they are super light, and rechargeable.

Lithium may be another option if weight is a concern.
