Holy Cow! Never seen anything like this. From the description, it sounds like this was anchored It just snaps in half! It obviously sinks but not in this video.

The lives of six seamen lost to the sea. May they rest in peace. frown

Sad deal. Recent survey showed significant deficiencies. They were slow to sound the general alarm. Pretty big lump rolling in for a vessel at anchor

Many moons ago when I was an apprentice, we had a bulk carrier in the yard that came in got repairs in dry dock and it had cracks all along the welds. Xray showed that when they built it ( I think it was made in Korea ) they played electrodes between the plates and welded over them. You could see the sticks in the x rays. Looked good on the outside but wasn't worth a crap. There was a lot of grinding burning and re welding done on that one before it was let out of dry dock

Sad... it reminded me of my strength of material classes in college, that ship looks like a paper clip bending back n forth, work hardening the steel material until it becomes so brittle it snaps.

I agree, looks like very poorly designed when it was new. Actually it doesn't look that rough, at least for a vessel of that size.

There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness
