As chain is rated, working load is normally 20% of breaking strength. That leaves safety margin for overhead lifting. Check shipping charges before ordering. Most trappers want straight link or twist link chain. Double loop chain is cheaper but not many trappers recommend it. Minnesota trapline products sell pretty good chain I have some MTP #2HD straight link chain bought 3-4 years ago. It is plenty strong for coyote but its light weight makes it less than ideal for use on drags.

If you ever get to Salt Lake City, there’s a store there called nps. I bought over 300 feet of good chain there for less than $100 this summer. They sell it by the pound rather than the foot, so it’s extremely cheap

Back when I got the trapping bug big time, I also owned an auto repair shop. When I started looking for chain someone suggested the side chain on used tire chains. I called the three different auto wrecking yards I dealt with, and in a matter of hours had all the junk tire chains I could use. They were free to me, I imagine that wouldn't happen to the average guy.

Shipping is the killer...If possible and the Covid police allow it check state trapping assoc meets lots of odds and end can be found there... fairly inexpensive. Not necessarily, I order from Schmitt. All orders over $100 ship for $24.90 So....... if you place a big order shipping will be cheap per item.
