Iowa Trapper Season End Video:

Well, he made 897 which is quite an achievement. I would like to know what the radius is of his line. It's hard for me to comprehend how he can trap 1080+ last year, 897 this year and have the coon population recover to have a large population. Iowa must be a real coon 'nursery'

He's a hard worker and is dedicated to his quest. He'll have a lots of fun planning, tweaking his equipment, improving his shortcomings and just looking forward to next year's goal. Anticipation, is sometimes better than realization!

I would really like to find out what his average on coon. A shot of his home and gazebo he built with his future money in this final video. Looks like this young man's got his act together. More power to him!

Is Iowa Trapper on Trapperman?

Lots of 1000 coon seasons here. Its like catching a 1000 muskrats in the Horicon. This is the first year I have not trapped at least 1500 in ten years and had two that were over 2000. They breed like rats here and have plenty of food and no real enemies. Not bragging but simply stating a fact. Work ethic is the biggest thing you need. If he had got in the water he would have had 1000 easily but I heard he ran dps. They fizzle fast on trails. LLL

He is definatly dedicated but the time and effort he has put in hes probly making 1.25 cents and hour. IF THAT . depends on if he is skinning them or selling carcass.

If I remember he also works a lot of hours at work, makes time for family and also being able to put up big numbers is amazing. He seems very modest, he doesn’t bag himself up or toot his own horn.

He does a great job handling his fur along with his job and family obligations. He develops his own markets as well. It's his passion....like a lot of us....I don't know about him but I don't spend a lot of time and energy calculating my hourly pay while trapping. Although I believe he does as well as anyone, or maybe better than most in this market.

He is now, lol thanks for the support it was a fun season! Already working on how to make things flow smoother and looking for more ground. Anticipation is truly almost if not more exciting then the trapping itself. I think the farthest I went from home was about 35 miles one direction. This year will probably be 60.

I saw the video with all his freezers. I wonder how much higher his electric bill is when he runs them all and how it offsets his profits.

Really wasn't terrible as I keep my shop cool anyways, plus when they are full they are hardly running, during the winter months my electric bill was right around 200, including my walk in freezer running fulltime

Thank you very much IowaTrapper for taking us along and showing how you run your line. The amount of info available now days compared to the 70's and most of the 80's is just mind boggling to me !!

I have not watched them all yet.But the ones I have watched I really like very much !! It is also so cool to see a guy that has the support of his wife and how you two appear to work very well together. That is so important also for a guy who has a family and at your guys age.If that were not the case then I know it would be so much more difficult.I plan on watching them all and looking forward to next season too..I hope to be able pick your brain and learn more in the future.I also very much appreciate the no big head ego and no need to run anyone else down to try to make one self appear better than others. That is so refreshing to see as well.

Thank you, I appreciate the support! Having a family this definitely wouldn't be possible le without my wife's support, we bump heads once in a while in November but it's mostly because we are both worn down, with her working and school full-time plus kids by herself on the weekends, and me trapping or skinning every free second I get. But I'm very thankful.

I started this to show that the average blue collar guy can still accomplish a large goal. I hope people realize the work I put into it in some degree, and can also apply this to things outside of trapping. I refused to give up or be told it's not possible with me choosing family first. I achieved it before and I will again while filming.

There are people who if they choose can run circles around me as far as longlinging goes, I mean that literally. They can have my entire season in a week. But for my lifestyle, and how I prioritize my life, I'm dam proud of what I've accomplished and I won't quit or be told no for my next goal either!

All depends what part of Iowa you are trapping. Seems south of I80 has the numbers North of i80 has better quality fur but less of a population.

Iowa trapper is humble and helpful with his hard working ways make him a very likable guy. His day job isn't easy either often lifting 10's of thousands of pounds a day all the while running a huge trap line putting up fur and making family time along the way he's definatly burning the candle at both ends with a fire starting in the middle of the candle as well. Looking forward to watching next season!

Some of the people who have commented on this post and others how several people catch this many in a year, themselves included, have a complex and think theyre amazing. They also do this full time with no job. So, im not sure those guys would run circles around you. Nice work, look fwd to more videos.

I understand what you are saying, I know a few individuals like that, I also know of a few that use to catch that kind of volume and were the most humble, helpful people you could ask for. Those are the people I tend to gravitate towards,I've learned alot from those individuals, as well as making these videos, its amazing how much knowledge and ideas are out there once you put yourself in a position to be able to reach these people.

Someone these trappers that can put up crazy numbers have way more years of experience then I. And the amount of ground they have memorized and mapped over 20 or 30 years really impresses me, they can remember a good mink bridge 120 miles from home, next to that old coon den. It's just insane the map that they have in your head along with the thousands of location!
