I think I have one more beaver left . I made a dam break set and the next day it was still open. I also have den and castor mound sets out.Usually on a dam break set I get one the next day. If there is one in the area how long will it take him to come fix the break ? Water is flowing out pretty good and the dammed "pond" has dropped about 8" in 24 hrs. I'm ready to move one but need to make sure I got them all. thanks

Why do you think there is one left? If you think you have one left because you pinched one or saw one, he might be holed up for awhile. Depending on the depth of the water at his house or bank den an 8 inch drop might not be enough to get a spooked beaver to repair the break.

If it is still there you are missing a den entry. Look closer. Deeper. Around here they will plug den entrances that are to high before they fix the dam in winter.

It can take anywhere from 1 night to several nights to, in worst case scenarios, several weeks. When I’ve seen it take the longest, there was either an injury and/or drought.

If you haven’t injured the last beaver nor drained the pond too much, it shouldn’t take long for repairs, especially in winter.

Well nothing today either, dam break still rush water out. I trapped one big male then kicked a 2 foot wide gap in the dam and pulled set for two weeks during Christmas break. Came back and the dam was repaired and there was fresh chewings.. Today there was a skim of ice over the pond and I didn't see any bubble trails from the lodge or bank dens. I only found one entrance to the lodge so I was hoping the ice would reveal the back door. This is a small creek/drainage ditch they have dammed up . It is close to a river, where they came from, would a lone beaver gone back to the river for any reason ? -Thanks

I have seen places like you described, and the beaver were living in a bank den in the main river. The tributary had old unoccupied lodges and bank dens. They were damming the tributary for a place to feed out of the main river.

kind of new to under ice beaver trapping, will there be a noticable bubble trail from lodges and bank dens ?

I've had big males hole up for 4-5 days and not fix the break if the water is deep enough.
I set traps one day check the next , and break dam deeper and stay away for 3-4 days .
And if I feel there is a trap shy one I go to snares, 1 snare above and 1 snare below the break.
Back away from the Castor sets an set all blind sets.

Ive had a spooky beaver let the pond nearly drain. Pulled traps..went back a few days later...dam repaired. This was using visible snares and bodygrips.

Properly set footholds set blind usually solves the problem.

Could be overnight-could be years or never.Too many variables.
