Years ago the guys welding galvanized drank milk at the end of the day. It was supposed to remove whatever you got from fumes were in your body.
I would put a fan blowing the fumes away from you also.

Best you can do with out having a sealed air welding setup is a fan blowing the weld plume away from you, that should be adequate for tacking. You can also use a small vacuum to suck the plume away and not have it fill a closed room, you set it up a bit away from your welding area so it does not suck up sparks but can pick up the plume
If your going to be welding more on this material, you going to have to invest in a filtered forced air welding hood set up, not cheap either, us welders in the shop where I work all have them because of the high concentrations of several metals in the mine, it is required PPE, the company is required to purchase them for us because of the stringent PPE regulations.
Most start at $1,800 dollars for a minor filtering system, ours with a double filter system for organic and non-organic materials are $2,600.00, could be cheaper out there I don't care I did not have to buy it !!
Milk works well but you should have some in your system before starting the process, if you get the Zinc chills your going to be down 3 or more day's and wish you could remove your head from your body, it hurts so bad and the muscle aches are way worse than any flu you have known !

Back when I was working the welders and all the other crews did not wear a respirator. I don't know if anyone got sick just drank milk. It definitely made you feel kind of sick if you got too much!

The milk is a real thing . Paint engineer I worked for demanded it before we left each day. But get you a painters respirator . The cartridges determine how effective. They used to be color coated. Think pink and yellow were the ones we used. BUt been years ago since I used one. Here is one I'm talking about. But you can find cheaper ones. https://www.homedepot.com/p/3M-Pro-...k-Latch-Case-of-4-65023QLHA1-C/206410930

That is a good respirator Wolfdog. We kept them in stock at the shop I used to work at, but most guys just prefer air movement when possible. There are plenty of expensive systems, but all you need is smoke moving out and fresh air moving in. If it's warm enough to keep the door or window open, a cheap box fan moving air will take care of you. I'm planning to install a bathroom fan in my garage sometime soon.
Milk counteracts the SYMPTOMS of heavy metal poisoning, but it doesn't necessarily take the metals out of your system, and heavy metal poisoning has long term affects too. Better to avoid intaking the metals to begin with.
Boco couldn't catch a cold. But if he did, it would be Top Lot.
