Seriously guys, does your waxed dirt have an odor to it? I'm sure a coyote can smell something different about waxed dirt but do you guys/gals notice a smell to it? Just wondering what others observe.

My waxed dirt works fine and wouldnt trap December and January coyotes here without it. Doesn't seem to bother them one bit.
Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

I have caught several coyote in painted traps that I could smell the paint on. If I could smell it I am sure coyote could. I had a a friend verify they smelled like paint. I set them anyway to see what happened. Can't imagine waxed dirt having any worse effect than that.
Wish I had more time to trap....

Ok, thanks. This was my third attempt at waxed dirt and notice an odor as I dumped the mixture out of my roasting pan but will go use it and find out what happens. Just wondered if other trappers smell an odor, specifically.

I did it over a turkey fryer, had a meat thermometer that I'd check and it was between 120-140 and I stirred it intermittently with a stick to get that darker color. I noticed when dumping it into the plywood to cool some that was in the bottom of the pan had a fine black texture and color. Rain and snow this weekend. I'll see if I get any dig ups or refusals.
Thanks guys, I'm still learning.

Do you guys think burnt dirt hurts a set? I kinda doubt it, at least around here. Wildfires are common in the summer here, just about anywhere you go has had a fire at some point in the last couple years so I don’t think that’s a smell they worry about. It’s familiar and natural

The only time a trapper quits learning is when they put him/her in a pine box. I’m 17 years into it and I learn new things all the time. In fact I watched a YouTube video a couple weeks ago on bedding traps and it completely changed how I do it, cut my bedding time in half.
