I'm out of borax and can not find any at my local Grocery stores, True Value, family dollar or dollar general no Wal-Mart's around. We got TP just no borax is it just a local thing or is it more wide spread?

Its a widespread shortage. More and more people are drinking it. Even some FB pages now with thousands of memebers telling how its helping all kinds of health issues. They have been stocking up since the virus hit. Seems to be some good science behind some of their claims..

With homeschooling being more prevalent, massive amounts of slime is probably being made. Plus people probably stocking up in case of detergent shortages

What are you using the borax for? If you're using it to brighten up the fur without washing it, you can get melbys fur conditioner

Possibly due to shutdowns at the borax mines or the transportation of such.

I've had issues with Green mold on the inside of my skins head and kill area shows it 1st, I've never noticed this before this season it is my 1st with freeze thaw daily conditions, I can't just hang them until I sell because its to warm they don't freeze solid this year, so I have been green skinning and they are molding I sell every 2 weeks, sadly all 18 skins had mold starting on Saturdays sale it was embarrassing I need to find a fix...

Get a small freezer if you're not going to dry your hides. Relying on weather conditions to take care of your hides is sketchy.

Flesh and stretch the fur and dry it. Get them in some heat once you flesh and stretch. Soon they will be hair slipping and you will have nothing.

I've read about wd40, bleach 50/50, and vinegar on this site are they jokes or real items people use for mold on skin in place of borax? Its though to tell the difference on this site after a few simple posts I get both BS and real answers, Fur buyer suggested Borax is there a substitute product?

I doubt your problem is mold, plus none of those solutions actually kill mold. Are you sure your problem is mold? Seems like it's more likely to be bacteria as mold needs heat.

Get some air circulation going and heat the area while your working in the area. Heat does not need to be continuos but the air circulation is prefered to be basically so.

The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

Keep the skins in a freezer or finish them.
Borax is poisinous-dont drink it or breathe the dust.

The wd40, bleach 50/50, and vinegar are used on fleshed, stretched and dry fur on the skin side where fur was hung with no heat and air circulation. I would say there is no substitute for borax. The best bet is to freeze them in a freezer or flesh and put them up.

Actually thats not true. I dont drink it, but I know lots of people that do for certain illness. Its the Boron they are after. An example is broken bones. Doctors have proven that a broken bone will heal twice as fast with boron intake.

Seriously this is one of the main reasons there is a shortage right now. I also use it for hides and havent been able to find any. Im not saying it will help with the virus but people that use it are buying it up.

Borax is a insecticide and absorbent. It does nothing to preserve hides. I wouldn't drink it.
