I had a Remington 11/87 12 gauge that I bought just for deer hunting. I also bought a smoothbore barrel for it for turkey season. I killed deer with it and didn't feel hindered in any way. Pretty good gun out to 150 yards or so and accurate once you find the rounds it likes to chew.

That's the key to any slug gun, it seems - find the slugs it likes. My deer gun is an old Winchester Model 12. It likes the cheap Winchester slugs. Anything else it throws all over the place!

On opening day this year I think I am going to carry my old Remington 700 BDL in 25-06.
It was made in 1970 so best let it shoot something for its 50th.
Original Redfield widefield 3x9 and 115 grain Nosler Partition's.

Yep. I bought the Remington and started with Remington slugs thinking they'd be a match but they weren't. I was pulling my hair out trying to find a slug that would group when a buddy of mine who doesn't even own a slug gun suggested Lightfield ammo. I had little left to lose and tried them out of desperation. Bingo, they grouped well.

I used a 300 win mag. Way to big for deer but I ha e a late season elk tag and didn’t want to waste ammo sighting in two rifles.

I am so jealous. My first rifle was a model 600 in 308. Like a dumb kid I decided I wanted something different and traded it off. I keep looking for another but haven't found the right one yet. I don't know how many deer it killed plus a few elk and bear.

Marlin 336 30-30win
Ar-15 6.5 Grendel

The 30-30 was my dad's and i like to hunt with it most. It kills just as dead as my bigger rifles but without all the bloodshot meat.
When i expect longer shots in the fields i carry the Grendel.

Marlin 1895 Guide Gun in .45-70. I customized it extensively when I worked in firearms restoration. Shoots 2" groups at 100 yards and I dont have to track them very far.

I will be hunting with my Savage ML 2 smokeless muzzle loader. Shooting a sabotted .45 cal, 300 gr hornady xtp mag pushed by 41 gr of accurate 5744. This combo has downed many deer for me.
