I’m the worst deer hunter to be around...I blind call all the time. I’ve seen it work too many times to not call occasionally. I’m not talking blowing the woods down calling, but I will call during the entire season. I really ramp up come the rut I've had seasons where the mojo was strong and I had deer respond to my calling every other day and I've had years where I might have one deer respond in ten days. You never know. Early season I'll give off light grunts and tickle the antlers. As the rut progresses, I get really aggressive with the calling. It's hard to pull off a realistic snort/wheeze. If you've ever heard a buck cut loose with one, you know what I mean. Overcalling is probably the biggest mistake most guys make. I might give out a couple of grunts and look at my watch and make a single grunt every half hour. Deer can take their good old time responding to calls. I'm sure lots of guys have called deer they never knew they called and hung up the grunt tube thinking they don't work.

This morning. He came out at about 150 yards behind a doe. Not really dogging her, just keeping her in his sights. I snort wheezed and grunted at him and he stopped and looked. I ticked the bag together a couple of times and here he came. Wasn’t sure if he was a shooter or not so I had to stop the video short to get the bow ready. https://youtu.be/50SPGQrk3yY

Nice! I had a forkhorn and a young 7 dogging 3 does right behind me this evening. Kind of funny watching the teenagers trying to act big lol. Probably next week the varsity players will be showing up Had a spike dogging a big doe and her fawn this morning too. It was comical, lol. The fawns running and bleating, the spike is grunting, and the doe is leading him in a big circle until she finally loses him and joins back up with her fawn and head back into the bottom. The spike gives up and decides acorns are better than her.

I had a buck pile out of its bed 60 yes away once when I started to rattle horns. It ran out of cover into and through a field doing 90. I could have possibly taken him with a rifle but not the bow I was using that day. sounds like you started rattling too loud/violently ya MUST start gentle/tickling the tips and pawing the ground/leaves gently for bout 15 seconds, wait a full minute, then rattle again, slightly louder/harder, for bout 30 seconds, louder raking leaves some, wait 3 mins, rattle even harder/louder for 30 seconds to 1 minute, raking the leaves and pounding antler butts into the ground bout every 20 seconds tween antler clashes. you MUST make it sound like a fight is going on, they NEVER fight without stirring up leaves and pounding hooves in the ground some. be watching DOWN wind, as they often circle I am behind some camo cloth to hide my motion. I hang a skint out deer tail bout chest high and put deer p on it. Been doing it for over 45 yrs and it works less than 1/2 the time, BUT, mostly works when does are in heat and the rut is rolling. First time dad had me try it in '73, had 3 bucks come in from 3 different directions, been hooked ever since! Bull caca.Thats sounds like a post JBYRD63 would say No, rattling works best just BEFORE does go into heat
swampgas chili and schmidt beer makes for a deadly combo
You have to remember that 1 out of 3 Democratic Voters is just as dumb as the other two.

I gota ask Have you learned the 3 types of grunts and when to use them and the different bleats? Tending grunt, contact grunt, aggravated grunt. There's probably more. I taught those to my youngest daughter on our rides to school the better part of twenty years ago. She still remembers them.
