most fluidmasters I'm familiar with have a slip ring on the main body. when this ring is pulled up the height of the flush valve can be adjusted and the ring pushed down to then lock it back in place. Then there is a adjustment on the fluidmaster float and that can also be adjusted. Inside the tank there is usually a horizontal line and above that the words "water line" are written. Also the top of most fluid masters can be taken apart for cleaning, it pops up and turns counter clockwise. I like to turn a class upside down over the top of the FM and turn the stop on a few time to flush it out good.
On new tioles I've not really had to do much adjustments other than the float. or a cleaning X2

It seems to me He still has a drainage problem. The 5gal bucket test will confirm if that is a problem. Easy to test. If it doesn't handle that , looking at the drain is a good idea.

Thanks PCR. You're advice is always worth what it costs. I will do the 5 gal bucket test.. And it's possible the valve sprayed out the top. And I'm a professional at everything so the fluidmaster was adjusted properly. This ain't my first rodeo!
Life ain't supposed to be easy.

I see a LOT of slow drains in the 100 year old buildings I maintain. I tell them them it's a blocked drain and to have it jetted out. Seems like they always want to replace all the parts in the toilet before they'll hire someone to get the drain.

17years at a state college. 7- 500 person dorms. 2 -300 person dorms with community bathrooms. the 500 man dorms where built cheap, undersized piping. 4 story buildings.no cleanouts .if it fit in the toilet, we found it! my dad worked at a state mental hospital as a plumber . you should hear his stories!
