Houdini had nothing on a goat for escaping from anything , no I've not raised goats but I've worked enough overnight shifts at the county fair to of seen a few things .
My advice is build the fences almost as if you were trapping wild hogs yes they are fence climbing little buggers and they'll find a weakness in the fence in short order .
But maybe they're similar to buffalo in if they have a large enough pasture they're happy and not escaping or destroying anything you'll find out with your automatic stock waterer if there's one in their pasture and how well they can open thing's with a tip of a horn ha ha Allan

Bruce, believe the above responses!!! As I was reading your post I was thinking just what these guys have written.
To add one item not already expressed, let me say "your fence is NOT high enough." Notice I do not know how high you are going to build your fence, but it really doesn't matter because it is not high enough!!

Have friends and my younger brother who also raise goats.Biggest thing is having the corner fence braces on the outside of the wire so the goats can't run up them.

I think most of these horror stories are from people that heard it from someone else. I have goats and have always been around goats. The fence doesnt have to be super high or thing like that. Yes they can get out an if they are a bit wild they may never come back. My fence is about 30 years old an i have been repairing it this summer. My goats have just been staying in my pen because they like it here, they could have jumped the fence and left long ago. The trick is to have enough room for them and feed them a little everyday just so they get used to you being around. Shortly they will be like mine an stand at the fence in the morning screaming at me until i go toss em a handful of feed.

Keep em wormed once a month trust me! We lost six to worms. Get a GOOD electric fence.

Neighbor got a few fainting goats a couple of years ago to help with weeds around the farm. Ended up losing all her flowers and shrubs along with her apple trees. They never really did much to knock down the weeds since they had so much other stuff to eat. She got rid of them by the end of summer.
Common sense is a not a vegetable that does well in everyone's garden.

How far apart are the stays (vertical strands )on that woven wire 4" or 6" stays make the woven wire the best goat trap ever devised for horned goats that stick their heads through the wire to graze . 12" stays alow the goats to get their nose turned back and they can remove their own head from the fence . You will never have to remove a goat from 4"x12" woven wire . They will get caught daily in 6"x6" wire some goat hourly some never learn

Im no goat expert , but keeping them up was the worst of my worries , after losing several thousands of dollars and ten years in the boar goats to worms and sickness. i felt it was enough . if you need extra papers for yours i have a clip board full. some of the best genes. sorry but all the goats for them are in the ground. By far the hardest livestock to care for i ever experienced.
