I knew of a few black bears caught with the Blue Bucket Set, first I heard of a Grizzly being caught in one.

I got myself a seniors' GPS.
Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination,
it tells me why I wanted to go there.

Back in the day when grizzlies got into those situations I’m betting the trapper could hear the ferocity of the situation a mile away or more. That had to make the final trek in for the dispatch REAL interesting.

Catching is the very easy part of the deal, subduing him and transporting him for relocation and release could be an involved process. lol

Well a good friend of mine while elk hunting on the Crow Reservation did find 2 newhouse bear traps on a ridge top or so the story goes sadly he passed away before I could find out more details about those traps.
Yes Ranchester is a fun little town !

Living for thousands of years on the open prairie and there being the undisputed ruler even over humans, those the first trappers and fur hunters had to deal with must have been a special kind of nasty.
Many of the earliest stories mention the fearless craziness of those beasts, had to be a real hoot with the weapons of that time.

One would have to wonder if any where asleep when they checked their sets like many of our catches are when we check our sets. Of course all bets are off when they wake up!

Back in the day's when sheep were plentiful around Big Timber there was a bear trap complete with a clamp and C bracket for setting them within easy arm's reach that was on every Mtn going up stream from town .
I spent some time up there and looked all over many of those mtns and never found one .

I do know there's still a backpacker who hasn't been found and presumed dead somewhere up in those mtns and he was very experienced who knows maybe a grizzly bear got him or maybe he got caught in one of those traps no one knows for sure.

I just read a story about a hiker who surprised a grizzly bear in its day bed he was knocked down and roughed up a little the grizzly left the area the hiker applied first aid to his wounds , walking out to the trailhead them was transported to the Cody hospital.
So there's still hope someone may get to trap a problem grizzly ? Ha ha

I've heard it's the sound of a rifle shot in some places. Like ringing the dinner bell.

A man that understands. Tweren't the Mormons that put him there. I was gonna bite him but didn't think that was fair either. The trap looks like the real deal. Amazing piece of history/art.

Praise the Lord and Pass the ammunition.
