I have 5 points towards a bear tag and still cant draw a tag for first season or second season in the carney unit. Darn bears are running around like chipmunks.

I've never applied for the Carney unit, but the first time I drew a permit in the Newberry unit it was somewhere around my 10th year, that was for the 1St hunt.I started applying for the last hunt after that one and have been drawn twice since. The success rate is low at that time ,but at my age I can't afford to wait for another 1St hunt drawing.

Years back your deer tag was used as your bear tag just shoot a bear then tag it, get the tag replaced to hunt deer then, just over the counter back in 1976. A few years later WI talked about closing their Bear season then MI panicked and the draw system was born, looked into a NR tag years back a NR has a better shot at winning the powerball.
Was born in a Big City Will die in the Country OK with that!

You can almost get a tag every year for the third season in carney unit but its hard to hunt with all the activity going on in the woods. I rather wait for the first season.

I remember those days well,my dad and brother both shot bears on their deer license in the '70's,when Mi went to a bear license I would walk in to a store and buy one over the counter. Then the excuses started on why we had to have a drawing.
