I've always done best with finishing my fur. I also enjoy doing it and it's part of the sport for me. I agree the tradition is great to pass on.
57 years trapping. It's who I am. Every day is still as exciting as it was when I was a kid but a little more work.

I don't think I have ever sold any fur that wasn't finished.

I am going to freeze unfleshed spring beaver until next year since it takes up less.room in the freezer. I have always finished and will later when I can find a buyer. Don't know if my buyer is going to make another trip this spring or not.
Wish I had more time to trap....

yote_trapper20- there are 2 podcasts that have been put out by Hoosier Trapper Outdoors that may give you some information on this specific subject you are asking about. Go to YouTube and find their channel, then go to the playlist menu and click on the Trap House Podcast menu. The two podcasts that talk in depth about selling and marketing fur are, #16 The Future of Fur and #24 The Fur Virus.
If you pay attention to what the guys are talking about in these two episodes, it is very eye opening, and may help you out with your decision on how you market your fur in the future.

There has been a few very rare times when I sold fur in the round. It was when I was much younger and fur was worth so much more that in my teenage mind I wanted money in my pocket today, not 2 weeks from now. There has also been a few times I have sold some stuff green because I literally didnt have the time to put it up. In todays market you have to put it up if you are going to sell it to a buyer to make it worth you while.
Just this year I was talking to a friend about prices he had been quoted. I told him how many coyotes I had and he scoffed and mentioned how they were not worth messing with. I was a little confused because I had talked to the same buyer and he gave me a price over the phone that was much higher. He was given the price of $12 in the round and the highest I got for a few of them was $45. I think its worth it.

Your not a finished trapper if you didnt learn how to finish your fur to acceptable standards. This doesnt mean you have to finish all your fur before selling-but you should know how to do it.
Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

I always finish fur. It’s my favorite part of trapping now. But I guess it all depends on time and the person. Some people hate it. If that’s the case, sell green. 99.9% of us aren’t making a living of it so do whatever you enjoy.
If traps work like the Antis say......I would have no fingers.
