I've caught 7 coyotes off a small (~50 acre) farm this year and 6 have been males. I finally caught a female pup a couple weeks ago. For you folks more experienced than I am, is there usually a reason for the sexes to be way off balance like that? It's also been the best season I've ever had as the most I've ever caught off this place before this year was 4. I'm trying to broaden my understanding of the coyotes themselves. Thanks!

I'm curious too...I killed 34 this year and I'd bet at least 75% were males, maybe more. Mother nature must be making up for something.

I was just wondering the same. I don’t kill many, but I think about 90% have been males the last several years.

It usually runs in spurts for me. Catch a bunch of one or the other one week, and next week it's the others turn to die! They balance out if you keep at it. Can't tell you why that is, tho!

Mine luck has been opposite. I took 6 coyotes from a 300 acre farm and 5 were females. I would say the last 3 years most of the coyotes off this farm were female.

Five or six coyotes is a pretty small sample. Believe me, when you get a hundred or more out of an area, they balance out much closer!

Any idea of the size of the territory and the family unit where you trap? I'm in Georgia.

On the 300 acre farm I trap in the past 5 years I have taken 30+ coyotes off of there and I would say the average is about 80% females. I thought it would nock them back in this area but really I think there are more now what there was 5 yrs ago. This is hard country to trap a lot of bog and private land that you cannot get into. Most of the coyotes taken are after freeze up with cables. Some years most of the ones that were caught had mange telling me they are a little over populated. I like my deer and this is the biggest reason I go after them.

One place could be a coincidence, if you see it on most your places, twice I remember getting 12 and 20 males before a female.
Mostly males I've heard the population is in decline
