So a buddy of mine tells me That He & another Fella trapping the same area seem to think the Beaver just are not moving. Do Beaver slow down this time of year(late jan. early feb.)? Now my friend is 72 been trapping a long time. The area is in Elk county PA. all open water right now. I know there's not a lot of info in this question but if someone could offer help it will be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

Did your beaver put in a feed bed.If so they will spend all their time around the house, bank den or feedbed, with an occasional trip to the dam.
If no feed bed, then they need to be cutting feed somewhere or living on cattail roots(if in a lake or swamp).

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

Boco,,Even with my limited experience I was going to suggest that but I figured He would know that. Ole John was just here and He agrees with what you said that that's what is going on. Thanks much for your reply.
