Put your wedge in like you would with a coon but at the top end and at the inspection window place a clothes pin under the wedge. Remove pins then the wedge is loose to remove.

Run the wedge as told and go at least 8 inches past the nose. When removing the wedge tap the end of it head down on the floor which breaks the wedge loose instead of trying to pull it loose from the tail end.
You'll have to hang it tail end up but the tail on an otter is completely tacked so that's not a problem.

Also do not put any inspection window on otter . It is not that hard to do them. like was stated that you tack the tail all the way around . I normal do not have problems with take the belly board out of them and the tap the bottom of the board on the floor and the skin loose up. I do the same with coyotes.

Put the wedge In from the nose end. It make no sense to put the skinny end of the wedge up Into the part that shrinks the most. I do the same with rats and coon. When removing the wedge just twist the wedge so It lays flat and It will be easier to remove.
I always use screen to keep the tail spread out. And If the hide doesn't come off just beat the nose end of the board on the concrete floor you want to drive the board out not In tighter,

I have a 3/8ths bolt that goes through my joist. When I put up fur I always leave the nose stick out a bit from the end of the board. When It comes time to remove the skin from the board I just place the nose over the end of the bolt and pull.

Also do not put any inspection window on otter . An INSPECTION WINDOW should be provided. It is easily accomplished with the initial opening cut and minor trimming. Skin and board otter just like mink.
The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

Some guys leave a knob on the end of their otter key.You can push it loose with your foot.
Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.
