Black would stand out like a sore thumb and those collars get hard In cold weather. Rubber gas line material Is the way to go.

I blacken all my snares when possible. The bush I snare in is black even in winter. Can you catch fur in ordinary colored snares?sure you can.But some animals get real smart with snares after they detect one or two.I don't want those animals running around the trapline. Greenhorns think black stands out because they are looking down at the snare against the ground. When snaring you need to get right down to the animals level and look around. Then decide. You will also see a lot that you cannot from a standing position. The places to hang snares will jump right out at you once you get down on the animals level and look all around. This is a key piece of information for snaremen.

Yes, blending in is a matter of coloration of the snare to the background color of the bush as seen from the animal’s perspective. Many have recommended coloring the bottom of a snare loop white for snow conditions. It often looks great from a trappers standing position, but from the coyotes lower position looking straight through the snare the white loop bottom will show up against a dark forest/bush background like a sore thumb.
The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

I throw a few dozen in with the traps when I boil in alder. Same with the wax.

Good info.. ^^^ X2 The entire thread...
Keep your boots dry and your powder too.
I remember when a fur check was reality.....now I'm just trapping for the love of it.
Best Regards,
