They can survive some pretty hard stuff if you would like I’m sure most of us from Iowa would make sure you had plenty to plug up any set you make. Apparently can't survive a North Dakota woman.

All he got in ND was shot in the head with a 9mm, by a female. Messed up the best part of a grinner nowadays, its skull, although the smaller ones tend to fall apart too easily after boiling...

In the Hay, in the tree holes, ground Burroughs....theyre even bigger now after surviving Mn/ Wisc Theyll live in pockets of AG land with cover feed and buildings But now much of southeast SD is 85-90% ag land so they're just about everywhere. I have a number of pixs like this one. Think it would be too cold and snow cover to be out but then a person gets surprised. I like those big winter boars, about the only sized grinner that has a decent chance to sell on the fur market and usually have nice skulls. P.S. Full disclosure, I think some of this snow came after it was whacked by the coni...

Endangered species ND was probably Home to possums 3 million years ago and they need to be brought back to stabilize the natural environment
FWIW we started encountering possums here in the 80's now they're a common catch however it seems like when coyote numbers are up possums are scarce

Grinner's are hearty critter's. I've dealt with them the entire time I've been trapping. Caught two in "mink" sets this year in fact.
Check in the snow around the road killed deer carcasses for tracks. Look for the hand print.
They eat just about anything and I've seen them inside a deer carcass just off the road having dinner. Nasty stuff!
Years ago it used to get relatively cold here, 15 to 20 below for a week or two sometimes longer, but nothing like the "north", north does.
They're prolific here in western PA, look prehistoric to me and I usually just let them go if they aren't injured too badly. Probably should just skin em.....lazyness
Another poor critter that's on the roads beside the coons smelling up things regularly through the year. Hazardous for motorcycle enthusiasts for sure.

Keep your boots dry and your powder too.
I remember when a fur check was reality.....now I'm just trapping for the love of it.
Best Regards,
JT

They love to bust up turkey nests. And all ground nests. Kill'em all... No good possum!!! Or ruin a championship coon hunt when your coonhound proudly carries one in in the last hour of the hunt when your winning it.
